Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan have been one of the most prolific batsmen for the Indian team in the last decade. While Virat's excellence needs no introduction, Shikhar is considered as the most humble and selfless player in the history of Indian cricket. Time and again, we have seen Shikhar winning everyone's hearts with his honesty and how he supports his teammates in every situation.
From cheering for them from the dugout to never being biased towards other batters in the Indian cricket team, Shikhar Dhawan is a gem of a person and a great cricketer. However, back in 2018, when Virat Kohli was the captain of team India, he faced much criticism when Shikhar was dropped out for India's Test series against West Indies.

Although the selectors made the decision, people called it an 'unfair decision' because Shikhar Dhawan had scored two centuries in the Asia Cup 2018. Despite giving such a performance in India's winning campaign, it was a shocker for many cricket fans to see Shikhar's omission from the squad for the Test series against West Indies.
If the reports are to be believed, soon after the omission of Shikhar Dhawan from India's Test series against West Indies, it was his ex-wife, Ayesha Mukherjee and Virat Kohli's wife, Anushka Sharma, who reportedly indulged in an argument. The media reports were rife that Ayesha was quite upset with the fact that her husband was left out of the squad and had a rift with Anushka, as her husband, Virat was the team's captain during that time. However, none of the wives came forward in the media to address the rumours about a possible rift between them.

It was in July 2019, when during a press conference, team India's captain, Virat Kohli addressed the reports of the wives of Indian cricketers fighting over some issues. The questions were indirectly about Anushka Sharma and Ayesha Mukherjee's alleged rift, and the former's husband, Virat responded to it quite gracefully. The then-skipper told the media that all the reports of cricketers' wives having a cold war are absolutely baseless. Not only this, Kohli termed the rumours as 'baffling' and 'ridiculous'.
Virat Kohli also went on to say that there's a section of people, who have imagined certain scenarios in their mind that have no base. The cricketer also added that people are not looking at the good things that are happening and are creating imaginary situations in their heads. The skipper's clear statement ended all the reports of Anushka and Ayesha having a possible rift. An excerpt from Kohli's statement could be read as:
"In my opinion it's baffling to be honest. It's absolutely ridiculous to read such stuff that comes out. We are overlooking facts. We are turning a blind eye to all the good things that have happened. We are creating fantasies and scenarios in our head and want to accept that this is the truth."
