Anushka Sharma is one of the most popular actresses in Bollywood. After wooing the audience with her stellar acting spree in multiple movies, the actress took a hiatus from acting after the film, Zero, in 2018. On the personal front, Anushka is married to Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, and they are blessed with two kids, Vamika Sharma Kohli and Akaay Kohli. Anushka and Virat have successfully shielded their children from the paps and haven't revealed their babies' cutesy faces yet.
During the last stretch of pregnancy in 2020, Anushka Sharma sat for an interview with Vogue India and opened up about her pregnancy journey during the COVID-19 pandemic. For the unversed, the actress gave birth to her daughter, Vamika on January 11, 2021. Speaking about her first trimester, Anushka revealed that she had nausea and exhaustion and she couldn’t go near the kitchen. She added:
“Smells would revolt me, I couldn’t go near the kitchen. I swear, I could smell people’s skin. I thought it was never going to end. I didn’t think I could feel so tired. I am an active person and it was startling, but even when you’re in pain, or uncomfortable, you are still thinking: have I eaten at the right time? Is the baby okay?”

Anushka was also asked if she had any cravings and she revealed eating only toast and crackers in the first trimester of her pregnancy. After that, she wanted to eat vada pao and bhel puri for a while, but she had no real cravings as such. Anushka also spoke about the biggest pregnancy myth that her doctor told her and said:
“I was eating only toast and crackers for the first three months. So when it ended I wanted to eat vada pao and bhel puri, but that didn’t last long either. So no real cravings. The first thing my doctor told me is that the biggest myth is eating for two.”
During her first pregnancy, Anushka Sharma confined herself to her home and directed a lot of her energy into preparing the nursery for the baby. In the same interview, the actress shared that she had prepared an animal-themed nursery for her babies. Talking about her and Virat's affection towards animals, Anushka shared that they want to teach kindness and compassion to their children. In her words:
“I just want to be prepared. I want the nursery to be very calm. It’s the place where you spend the most amount of time, where you are bonding with your baby, so it has to be peaceful. I don’t believe that boys have to wear blue and girls pink. The nursery has all colours. Both Virat and I love animals and we want our baby to have that bond too. They are a big part of our lives and we really believe they can teach kindness and compassion to children."

Despite having a pandemic baby, Anushka Sharma feels that there was a silver lining. As she and Virat have very demanding schedules, the pandemic gave them a chance to keep everything else on pause and be together. Anushka also shed light on how the pandemic allowed them to keep the early months of her pregnancy under wraps. Narrating an incident from her WFH scenario, the actress said:
“The pandemic has been a weird blessing in a way. Virat was around and I could keep it a secret. We only left to go to the doctor’s clinic. No one was on the streets so we couldn’t be spotted. Working from home too worked in my favour. While promoting Bulbbul, I was feeling incredibly nauseous over a Zoom interview: I quickly turned off my video and messaged my brother, who was also on the call, to stall them for ten minutes. If I had been on set or in a studio, everyone would have known.”
Fast forward to today, Anushka Sharma is a doting mommy to her two children, Vamika and Akaay.
