In a country, where we are divided on different religious values, castes and culture, our love for cricket and Bollywood unites us. The relationship between cricket and Bollywood goes way back when the former captain of the Indian cricket team, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi lost his heart to the Bengali beauty of Hindi cinema, Sharmila Tagore in 1965. Since then, we have seen celeb couples like Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra, Yuvraj Singh and Hazel Keech, Zaheer Khan and Sagarika Ghatge, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Natasa Stankovic amongst others, making the bond between Bollywood and cricket strong. There’s no happier moment for us than witnessing how cricketers, who show their pride on the cricket field become weak in the knees in front of B-town beauties. In 2017, we had witnessed two such unions i.e., of Zaheer Khan and Sagarika Ghatge and, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. The wedding season had begun with former Indian pacer, Zaheer Khan and Chak De! India actress, Sagarika Ghatge’s registered marriage on November 23, 2017, which was followed by a star-studded wedding reception for their friends from the cricket and entertainment industries. Next month, pop-ups from Virat and Anushka’s social media profiles had pleasantly surprised us as the couple had announced their secret intimate wedding and had introduced each other as husband and wife.
Zaheer Khan and Sagarika Ghatge had hosted a grand star-studded wedding reception at Taj, Colaba in Mumbai on November 27, 2017 and the highlight of the celebration was the love and fun-filled presence of Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. The then to-be married couple, Virat and Anushka had danced the night away with their friends at the wedding reception and it was their sizzling chemistry that had made our hearts flutter. To mark Zaheer’s 42nd birthday on October 7, 2020, we have a special treat for his fans. An unseen picture of Zaheer and Sagarika with Virat and Anushka from the former couple’s wedding reception celebration, and the photograph exudes nothing but royal vibes. In 2018, at the special screening of Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan’s film, Sui Dhaaga – Made In India, their respective partners, Virat Kohli and Natasha Dalal, Sagarika Ghatge and Zaheer Khan were snapped cheering for the stars. While Anushka had looked stunning in a red dress, Virat had opted for a casual attire. Congratulating her for the film, Sagarika had posted a picture with Anushka, Virat and Zaheer and had written, “A movie that makes you laugh, cry and gives you hope to pursue your dreams. What a wonderful film #suidhaaga is to watch with stellar performances and great direction. Sagarika Ghatge had announced her registered marriage with Zaheer Khan by posting the first ever picture together as husband and wife. Sagarika had simply captioned it as “23.11.2017”. For the intimate ceremony of registering their marriage and exchanging varmalas, Sagarika had proved less is more as she had opted for a beautiful and simple bright red saree. Sagarika had accentuated her look with oxidised silver jewellery, minimal makeup and traditional green bangles, which are an important part of a Marathi bride’s attire. Zaheer had complemented her in a pink-coloured kurta.
Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli had announced their wedding with two pictures from the ceremony and had captioned it as “Today we have promised each other to be bound in love for ever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans & well wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey.” While Anushka had floored us with her pale pink Sabyasachi lehenga with renaissance embroidery, Virat complemented her perfectly in an ivory silk sherwani, which was hand embroidered in a vintage Benarasi pattern. Anushka’s wedding look became the most desirable ensemble for every bride-to-be and still continues to be one!
