Television couple, Apurva Agnihotri and Shilpa Saklani are enjoying the best phase of their lives with their daughter, Ishani. For the unversed, the madly-in-love duo tied the knot in 2004 and welcomed their first child together in 2022 through surrogacy. Apart from being in marital bliss off-screen, the couple has also performed in several reality shows, including Nach Baliye 1, Pati Patni Aur Woh, Bigg Boss 7 and Power Couple. Now, in a candid conversation, the couple opened up about their 'not so joyful' experience on the popular reality show, Bigg Boss 7 and also shared a few shocking anecdotes from the same.
In an interview with the ETimes, Apurva Agnihotri and Shilpa Saklani were asked about the online trolling they had to face while inside the Bigg Boss 7 house. To this, Apurva mentioned that even after being thick-skinned and confident about themselves, the negative comments were enough to take all the name, fame and respect they have earned over the years. Elaborating on his point, he said:

“Honestly, I wasn’t very kicked about it. I had the feeling that whatever name, fame and respect you have earned in your life, it can be washed away in a snap. And it has happened with people. I know many friends, who after the show went through severe depression and took psychiatric help. No matter how thick-skinned or confident you are, it is difficult to digest all the trolling and negative comments that people talk about you outside the show. Kitna bhi aap kaho farq nahi padta, when you read those comments, you do get affected.”

Further, Shilpa was asked about the duo's experience on the show. Explaining the same, she thanked the almighty for keeping her and Apurva together on the show. Otherwise, as per her, the journey would have been extremely difficult as the atmosphere inside the BB house is very toxic. She also explained how she got herself busy cooking to keep away from the toxicity and said:
"Ever since Bigg Boss started, we had been offered it individually and we kept declining the offer. In the 7th season we were finally invited as a couple. There might be many people saying that they had a good journey, but personally Apurva and I didn’t enjoy our journey. We are thankful to God that we were together in the show. After entering the house, I understood that if I sit idle, you can go crazy. Very smartly, I took the cooking job in the house and everyone else felt relieved. In a day, I would make 50-60 paranthas. I immersed myself in cooking. I was busy. The atmosphere in the house is so toxic."
Shilpa and Apurva also opened up if the reality show, Bigg Boss is scripted. While Shilpa disagreed and mentioned that since everyone is aware and knows the prerequisites to be the winner, they follow the same pattern. However, Apurva mentioned, “It is scripted. The channel knows who will react and how. And that’s why people have started predicting in recent seasons." However, he also mentioned how the day his wife, Shilpa had left the show, he also became low and nominated himself. To this, Shilpa jumped in between and mentioned that Apurva's elimination was a Karwa Chauth gift for her. She added:
“It was Karwa Chauth and I prayed for him to get eliminated as a gift. We have done many reality shows but Bigg Boss 7 was not joyous at all. It was not one of our favourites. We aren’t Big Boss prototype. We have learnt a lot specially how not to go crazy even after reaching the breaking point. We came out with flying colours."

Further, Shilpa mentioned how her hubby, Apurva had lost a show as the leading man because of a stunt he did inside the Bigg Boss house. She mentioned that if Apurva hadn't peculiarly cut his hair while performing a stunt, he would have worked in a pivotal role in a serial he signed before joining the reality show. Shilpa shared:
“Nobody knows this but Apurva was signed for a show as the lead actor. He was supposed to play a business tycoon. He went to shave off his head and I kept thinking doesn’t he remember that he signed the contract for a show after this? You won’t believe, after he got eliminated, the makers very respectfully told Apurva that they won’t be going ahead with him because of his look and he couldn’t wear a wig.”
In the same conversation, Shilpa mentioned how she was bullied inside the reality show house. She also revealed that her marriage is her identity and wouldn't keep quiet if anyone pokes her for it. She stated:
“I was bullied a lot. Through the season I got bullied a lot for being a ‘pati vrata’. That I don’t see right or left, I am always standing by my husband. People, who met for a brief period and became girlfriend/boyfriend, others are supporting them. But when I am supporting my husband of years, I was called ‘pati vrata’. My marriage is my identity and if anyone poked me about it, I wouldn’t keep quiet.”
