AR Rahman and Saira Banu's divorce announcement shook the entertainment industry, and fans are still reeling from it. Since then, rumours about what went wrong with the couple and how their personal lives will change have been rife. Now, the gossip has extended to Rahman's professional life as well, as speculations about the Oscar-winning singer-composer taking a career break abound. While Rahman himself hasn't addressed the speculations, his daughter, Khatija Rahman has reacted to them.
For the unversed, AR Rahman announced that he and his wife, Saira Banu had made the difficult decision to separate on November 19, 2024. Following the same, rumours started spreading about the singer-composer possibly taking a year-long break as he came to terms with the split. A DT Next report quoted a reliable source as saying:
"After finishing his current commitments, the composer will be going on a break. We do not know if it will be for six months or one year. He will be back to composing music when he feels better. The separation as well as the negativity surrounding the announcement has exhausted him in the recent past. Though there are quite a few films that are announced, we do not know if he will complete them before the break."
However, the reports seem to be false as Rahman's daughter, Khatija came forward to rubbish the claims. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), she shared a clear-cut response to rumours, and wrote:
"Please stop spreading such useless rumours."
Not too long ago, AR Rahman bared all about his struggles with mental health. The music maestro stated that he felt everyone dealt with mental health issues, like depression, as most people had a void in them. According to Rahman, some filled that void with philosophy, storytelling, or entertainment. However, in his case, it was his music that helped him heal.
Some fans of the award-winning singer-composer might be surprised to know that Rahman also struggled with suicidal ideation when he was younger. His mother's advice helped him push through those tough times. Rahman said:

"When I had suicidal thoughts when I was young, my mother used to say, 'When you live for others, you won't get these thoughts.' That's one of the most beautiful advice I got from my mother."
For the unversed, AR Rahman and Saira Banu tied the knot in 1995 and spent 29 years together before announcing their decision to separate. In November 2024, the couple released a joint statement through their lawyer, Vandana Shah. It stated that the difficult decision had been taken by Saira after 'tensions and difficulties' had created an 'insurmountable gap' between the couple.
Not long after, Rahman took to his X handle to inform his fans about the couple's decision. In a poetic and heartfelt message, Rahman shared the sad news while thanking everyone for their 'kindness' and for 'respecting their privacy' during the challenging phase. However, when rumours about Rahman's morality started spreading, Saira came forward to support him while being treated for her illness. She claimed that nothing had been confirmed yet and requested people to wait for her to return to Chennai before jumping to conclusions.
Well, the couple's lawyer, Vandana backed up Saira by stating that she had never stated that reconciliation was impossible. She stated that given the many years Rahman and Saira had spent together, it was obvious that the decision wasn't rushed. However, at the same time, she reiterated that she had never once mentioned that reconciliation was completely off the table.
