AR Rahman, known for his soulful music, has made millions rethink on the idea of marriage. His separation from his ex-wife, Saira Banu, after 29 years of marriage, has left everyone wondering if 'weddings' nowadays come with an expiry date. While Saira Banu's lawyer revealed that she had taken the decision out of pain and agony, AR Rahman's post on X with a strange breakup hashtag left the netizens furious. Now we stumbled upon their unseen wedding photos.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu tied the knot in March 1995. It was an arranged marraige, and the match was fixed by AR Rahman's mother. In the photos, the Oscar-winning singer was seen dressed up in a white sherwani with a golden turban and a kalgi. On the other hand, Saira Banu looked pretty in a red lehenga with a heavy dupatta tucked over her head.
In the first photo, Rahman was seen showing off a gift by someone close to him while his wife, Saira, was standing next to him. In another photo, Saira and Rahman were sitting with huge jaimalas on their necks. The last one was a monochrome photo of AR Rahman and Saira as they were looking at each other.
While the wedding looked simple, some of the biggest stars had graced the ceremony. AR Rahman, who is known for his introverted nature and not using many words to express his emotions, once talked about his wedding. In Nasreen's book, AR Rahman: The Spirit Of Music, he talked about his wedding and how he had to fake a smile all through it. However, by the end of the night, his jaws started aching.
AR Rahman shared that he got married in Chennai at the same building where he opened his AM studios in 2006. An excerpt from AR Rahman's biography can be read as:
“Saira and I were married in Chennai on 12 March 1995, in the same building where I opened the AM Studios in 2006. I had a fixed smile on my face on my wedding day, and at the end of those three hours, I remember every muscle in my face ached."
We all will agree that divorce is a start to a new beginning, but when there are adult children involved, things become a bit uncomfortable. On top of it, AR Rahman while announcing his separation created a hashtag 'ARSairaBreakup' that left everyone in shock.
