AR Rahman and Saira Banu's divorce after 29 years of marriage shocked all their fans and well-wishers. Saira, in her divorce statement via her lawyer, Vandana Shah, revealed that she had taken the decision out of a lot of emotional pain. Within hours, AR Rahman's bassist, Mohini Dey, also announced separation, which led to people making wild guesses and starting to link them together. Saiara and her lawyers issued an official statement refuting all such claims, and even their children rubbished all rumours, but now Mohini Dey has shared her two cents on the matter.
AR Rahman has been quiet all along as rumours about his alleged affair with Mohini Dey dominated headlines. Now, for the first time, Mohini came in front and defended the singer via a video. Taking to her Instagram, Mohini shared a video and revealed that AR is just a father figure to her and he is even younger than her father. His daughter is her age, and the duo have immense respect for each other. Mohini also added:
"AR Rahman is a legend, and he is just like a father to me! I have many role models & father figures in life that have played vital roles in my career and upbringing."
Mohini added that she worked as AR Rahman's bassist for eight and a half years. However, five years ago, she shifted to the US, where she has her own band and works for other pop artists. Divorce is a very painful process, and she requested everyone to be kind. Taking to the caption section, Mohini further added:
"Media/Paps do not understand the affect it has on people’s minds and lives. Be sensitive. I don't owe anyone any explanations, but also, I don't want this to brew and interrupt my day so, so Kindly stop with the false claims & Respect our privacy."
When questioned about the reason behind AR Rahman's divorce, his wife's lawyer, Vandana Shah, refused to give out details. However, she added that they are parting ways due to significant emotional strain in their relationship. Vandana further added that the estranged couple released a statement to the media so that nobody could speculate anything. Hinting at people's absurd way of connecting AR Rahman's separation news to his bassist, Mohini Dey, Vandana added that it is stupid of people to link them together.
"Yeh jo dusri unki colleague hai jinka divorce ho raha hai, kya hai yeh. Yeh kaisa rumour bhi kisne soch liya, it is such a load of nonsense. Mai ek legal term use krna chahti hoon I would like to treat it with contempt, jo logo aise mudde utha rahe hai."
AR Rahman is one of the wealthiest music composers in the film fraternity who has worked in both the Hindi and South industries. He also has an Oscar under his name and is respected by his fans. Coming to wealth, AR Rahman owns a net worth of around Rs 1,728 crores and Rs 2,000 crores. And if his wife demands alimony, then half of it will go under her name. Talking about the same, Saira Banu's lawyer stated:

"In India, the idea of receiving 50% alimony after divorce is a myth. And it’s not documented in law. There is no fixed percentage mandated by the legal system. This misconception has been perpetuated, making people believe that a spouse automatically gets 50% alimony upon divorce. But that is not true. The actual outcome largely depends on the arguments presented in court, the Affidavit of Assets and Liabilities submitted, and the overall context of the case.”
Vandana cleared the air, and said that wives in any way do not get half of their husband's property as soon as the divorce is filed. The whole legal process is behind it, and the court testifies everything before passing a judgment. However, AR Rahman and Saira are amicably parting ways, so there arises no question of alimony.
