The separation and divorce of a couple represent a pivotal, traumatic shift in a child's world as for the little one, he/she loses his family. Every child reacts and copes up with the situation differently, grasping how their lives will change. Years after his parents, Boney Kapoor and late Mona Shourie Kapoor's divorce, their son, Arjun Kapoor revealed what comforted him the most during that phase. It was in 1983 when Boney Kapoor had married Mona Shourie when she was just 19 and he was 10 years older than her, and in her words, she 'literally grew up with him'. 13 years into marriage and two kids, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, later, Mona's world shattered when the storm of Sridevi and Boney's relationship and the former's pregnancy had hit her life.
In 1996, Boney Kapoor officially left his first wife, Mona Shourie Kapoor and their kids, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, to settle in his second marriage with Sridevi. While Sridevi was called a homewrecker for breaking his family, Mona blamed her husband but never had any animosity or hatred for him. Mona never stopped her children from meeting their father or spending time with him. After the demise of Sridevi in 2018, Arjun and Anshula have become the pillars of strength and source of love for their father, Boney Kapoor and their half-sisters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.

For an episode of Discovery Plus' show, Star vs Food, Arjun Kapoor revealed how he, at the age of 11, found solace in food when his parents, Boney Kapoor and Mona Shourie Kapoor, got divorced in 1996. Elaborating on the same, Arjun said, "I looked at food for comfort. I got caught up in the way I felt emotionally… so I started eating and then I really enjoyed eating, and fast food culture came into India at that point of time and fast food is ‘fast food’, so you can go after school and keep eating. It is very difficult to let go because eventually, there is nobody to stop you beyond a point. Your mother loves you; she will reprimand you, but you are still a kid, and they give you benefit of the doubt ki yeh umar hai khaane ki, theek hai."

Revealing that he left rice and sweets for two years and speaking about the moment when he realised it's high time to start a new phase of his life, Arjun continued, "One Diwali just ate biryani and had a tub of ice cream, and then I said ‘bas!’ Is Zindagi ke liye bohot kha liya, ab apni agli zindagi ke liye nahi kahunga! Arjun Kapoor and his sister, Anshula Kapoor often reminisce the beautiful moments spent with their late mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor on their respective social media handles. In an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Arjun had spoken about the same and how Anshula is just like their mother. He was quoted as saying, "That's the way we relive memories of our mother (Mona Kapoor). She used to save pictures from all our birthday parties and other important moments. By the time she passed away, she had a drawer full of albums dating back to the 1970s. Anshula is a replica of her and takes care of these things now. We live in the same house and take each other for granted, not saying in person how much we love each other, but we use the social media for it."
In a throwback interview with the DNA, Mona Shourie Kapoor had spoken about the impact of her divorce with Boney Kapoor on their children, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor. Mona was quoted as saying, "It was also a tough time for my son Arjun and daughter Anshula, who were both in school. The world is a cruel place. When you are going through bad times, they speculate about you and discuss you in their living room. So, in school, my children had to face torment from their classmates. But they became strong and learnt to face facts. What held us together was the thread of pain."
On the professional front, Arjun will next be seen in Sardar Ka Grandson, which will release on the OTT platform and will also be a part of Bhoot Police and Ek Villain Returns.
