Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan was arrested by the NCB in the drugs case on the night of October 2, 2021. Apart from Aryan, five others, who were arrested, are Munmum Dhamecha, Arbaaz Merchant, Ismeet Singh, Nupur Sarika, Mohak Jaswal, Gomit Chopra and Vikrant Chhoker. Aryan’s lawyer had defended him saying that he was in the Goa-bound cruise only to add some ‘glamour’ to the event.
Along with Aryan Khan, it is his close friend, Arbaaz Merchant, who is lodged at the Arthur Road jail in the drugs case. On October 20, 2021, a special court was summoned for Shah Rukh Khan’s son’s drug bail application. However, along with Aryan Khan, his friends, Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha’s bail was also rejected.

Arbaaz Merchant’s father, Aslam Merchant, who is a lawyer, is worried about his son. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, speaking to a leading daily, Aslam mentioned that his son, Arbaaz is separated from Aryan in jail and is unable to sleep. He also mentioned that Arbaaz is getting anxiety attacks and is enquiring about the development in the case whenever they meet.
Talking about the conversation between Arbaaz and Aryan that surprised him, Aslam told the publication:
“I’ve told him that we have applied for bail and the hearing is on the same day as Aryan’s case. Arbaaz then told me something that surprised me. He and Aryan are good friends and they share a lot of their thoughts and apprehensions, too. And Aryan shared with Arbaaz that he was surprised that this episode has gone on for as long as it has. Both the boys were expecting that this would be resolved sooner. They’re both taken aback at how much time it’s taking for their bail.”
According to journalist, Faye D’souza, the reason for the delay in Aryan Khan’s bail is his WhatsApp chats. The journalist had quoted its source as “Khan was not found with any drugs in his possession but the NCB argued that they have access to WhatsApp chats that suggest he was regular user, overseas. Including a chat that said “Let’s have a blast” which the NCB interprets as intention to consume drugs.”

According to the reports, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has opposed Aryan Khan's bail plea, as they've filed a remand extension plea in court. In a reaction to NCB's plea, Aryan's lawyer, Satish Maneshinde had clearly stated that his client (Aryan) was invited to the cruise party by a person connected to the film industry, just to add some 'glamour'. Satish had also added that Aryan had entered the party as a 'VVIP' guest. He had stated, "A person connected with Bollywood wanted to add glamour to the cruise and hence invited him."
However, Aryan Khan's lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, had accepted that his client knows Arbaaz Merchant and had added that detaining his client just to know a person merely is utterly unconvincing. Satish had said, "He (Merchant) is my friend, I'm not denying that. But mere knowledge of a person is not enough to keep me in custody."
Aryan Khan’s bail plea will be next heard on October 26, 2021, by the Bombay High Court.
