Born into the musical family of the actor and classical singer on Marathi Musical stage, Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shivanti, in the small hamlet of Goar in Sangli, Asha Bhosle had begun singing and acting in films to support her family after the demise of her father. When Asha tai had started her singing career, she was often considered as a sideshow singer, who would get the songs after avant-garde singers like her sister, Lata Mangeshkar and Geeta Bali had their pick. But in 2011, with more than 12,000 songs in her portfolio, Asha tai holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the most recorded artist in the history of music. Among five siblings, Asha Bhosle was the third eldest, who followed the footsteps of her eldest sister, Lata Mangeshkar. After the demise of their father, Lata ji was the sole breadwinner of the family and Asha tai had made her singing debut at the mere age of 10 in 1943 for a Marathi film. Then in 1948, Asha tai had made her Hindi film debut, but when Naya Daur had released in 1957, it had marked as a new beginning for her. It not only brought Asha tai into the limelight but from then, began the steady inflow of singing offers. It was by 1980 when Asha tai was considered second in ranks after Lata ji and she had happily enjoyed her position. With Rangeela, Asha tai had reinforced her image as an evergreen singer and it was a turning point for her as she had ventured into the era of modern music.
On September 8, 2020, Asha Bhosle turned 87 and she ringed in her birthday with her grandchildren, Zanai Bhosle and Ranjai Bhosle. Zanai shared a glimpse of the birthday celebrations and an array of memories with her tai on her Insta stories, she has written some heartfelt words for Asha Bhosle. Asha tai stays with her son, Anand, daughter-in-law Anuja, grandchildren Zanai and Ranjai in Mumbai but to celebrate her birthday, the family headed off to Lonavala. In a birthday special interview with the DNA, Asha tai has revealed that as she is becoming 'younger', her only mantra is 'to look forward'. Asha tai’s favourite Fresh Cream Fruit Cake, made of fruits and dry fruits was brought from Mumbai by Zanai, who also brought her grandmother's favourite Japanese and Chinese food from Mumbai making her happier.

Speaking of her grandchildren, Zanai Bhosle and Ranjai Bhosle, Asha Bhosle’s pride was quite evident as she said, "Both the kids are very talented. Zanai sings, and in her, I see myself as a child." Revealing that she is going to get the chefs at her restaurant to try out her new veg and non-veg recipes, created by her during the lockdown, Asha tai continued, "I am very fast at what I do. Whether it is singing or cooking. So, when I create recipes, others run out of the kitchen, not able to match my speed!" Concluding the interview with throwing some light on her journey and life, Asha tai said, "Looking back, Asha Tai has no regrets. I am happy I have lived and loved. I have lived an honest life. I am happy that I stood on my own feet as a 10-year-old singing my first song. Today at 87, I am still singing and standing on my own feet. And I have a beautiful family and an even larger fan-family. What more could I ask for!" During the initial days of the lockdown, Zanai Bhosle had launched her YouTube channel, and it was her proud grandmother, Asha Bhosle, who had announced it on her Twitter handle. Stating how proud she is to see her 18-year-old granddaughter very nicely making use of the free time amid the lockdown, Asha tai had tweeted, "In these days of home arrest, it's interesting to see how well young kids are adapting to the situation. My 18-year-old granddaughter Zanai, launched her YouTube channel today and is convincing me to launch one as well, Zarasa Jhoom Loon Mein."
On September 7, 2020, Asha Bhosle’s elder sister, Meena Bhosle had turned 89 and to mark the special day, she had posted a throwback black-and-white picture with her from their childhood days. Looking adorable and sharing an uncanny resemblance with her Meena tai, Asha tai had written in her birthday wish, “Join me in wishing my elder sister Meena Tai on her 89th birthday today. Meena Tai & I in this photo as I remember our childhood days.
