Ashutosh Rana is hands-down one of greatest actors of Hindi cinema. The multi-talented personality is remembered for some of his iconic roles in films like Dushman, Sangharsh, Awarapan, Kalyug, Raaz among others. Apart from his performance in Bollywood, Ashutosh has equally worked in theatre and regional language films as well. In his personal life, the versatile actor is married to the talented actress, Renuka Shahane.
In a recent interaction with Mashable, Ashutosh Rana recalled the days of hardship he went through early on in his career, when he didn’t even have a car and ended up travelling through taxis and local trains. The actor opened up about one particular time, when he got nominated at the Filmfare actor for his performance in Dushman. However, since he didn’t have any vehicle, he was left to travel to the award night in a cycle itself. Adding how his Guru was the first one to ever ask him about his preference for car, Ashutosh said:
“Later, the film was nominated for Filmfare award, so I asked my guru if I should buy a car now because it was a big award night! He asked, ‘If you go by cycle, will they not give you an award?’ He said just be carefree, go the way you are. I didn’t say anything. A week before the event, he called me and asked, ‘What is the biggest car today?’ I told him Honda City. He said you can get this.”

Moving forth in the conversation, Ashutosh Rana then remembered how one fine day, while he was busy shooting the film, Sangharsh, he was surprised by his then-GF, Renuka Shahane, who purchased a Honda City car for him as a gift. Ashutosh then revealed how he reciprocated Renuka’s gesture by gifting her a car again. In his words:
“I was shooting for Sangharsh then, and I learned that Renuka was already there, with a brand-new car. She told me, ‘This is for you, my gift!’ and I was amazed! We were in a relationship back then she was my girlfriend. So, when she gifted me that, I bought a Lancer for her! We both gifted cars each other.”
Speaking more about cars and vehicles, Ashutosh Rana then expressed how he loves to take long road trips driving all by himself. He mentioned having mapped the country of Nepal by road, and reminisced his college days when he used to explore a lot on his two-wheeler Yamaha bike.

For the unversed, Renuka Shahane was previously married to the Marathi theatre writer, Vijay Kenkare. However, after separating from him in a few years, she got married to Ashutosh Rana in 2001. In one of her older interviews with Mid-Day, Renuka had reflected how people thought her second marriage wouldn’t last long enough than a month. In her words:
“With that kind of background, many people thought that we weren’t going to be compatible. In fact, a lot of people who were pretty close to us predicted that we’ll last only one month, or a year, and not more than that…Whatever said and done, it is unfortunate, but the change and the adjustment is usually one way."
