In an interview with ETimes, Sara Ali Khan opened up about her mother, Amrita Singh and revealed how people crumpled her because of her soft heart. Reflecting on her mother's experience, the doting daughter stated that because of her mother's experience, she became a master in concealing her soft side perfectly so that no one could take advantage of her. Sara Ali Khan also added that she idolises her mother and wants to be like her every single day of her life. She said:
"I may seem bubbly and display clarity of thought, but that's on the exterior. In reality, I am extremely sensitive as a person. I just know how to conceal that side of me better with confidence. I grew up with a single mother (actress Amrita Singh) who understood early in life that if you have a soft shell, you will be crumpled easily. I idolise my mother and hope to be like her every day, so the strength to conceal the vulnerability comes from there."
Going further in the interview, Sara Ali Khan was questioned whether a person could fall in love with two people at the same time like it was shown in her upcoming film, Atrangi Re? Answering this, Sara Ali Khan shared her views on love and stated that she took a while to realise and accept the reality that one should fall in love with oneself before loving someone wholeheartedly. She explained:
"Love is a very personal and subjective phenomenon. I do believe in one thing. To have any kind of love in your life, you need to love yourself first. It took me a while to realise that. The rest is different for different people."

Reflecting on how their independent nature and journey in their respective careers had taught her a lot about life, Sara even addressed her father's 17 flops. The actress heaped immense praises on her parents for always choosing their hearts without getting influenced by the standards set by a certain section of society. Sara said:
"My job matters a lot to me, but if you stop mattering to yourself, job kaise kar paogay? My mom stopped working as a leading lady the year before I was born. She bagged the Filmfare Award for Aaina (1993) and called it quits. My father gave 17 flops, and then became somebody who won numerous awards later on, including the National Award for Hum Tum. He went on to do films like Omkara. I learnt from them that if your heart is in the right place and you try hard and mean well, you are sorted."
