In the year 2004, we spotted a handsome guy, named Ayushmann Khurrana, who made our heart flutter with his cute smile on MTV Roadies. But that's not how the actor's journey started, his dream took flight at the mere age of 4 when he first saw his inspiration dhak-dhak girl, Madhuri Dixit. Taking his dream further from a small town, Chandigarh to becoming a national crush, his success road has been quite remarkable. And while not many supported his dream, Ayushmann knew his time will come and he will shine the brightest. All his prayers were answered and from a Roadies win, he went on to become everyone's favourite actor and now a National Award Winner for his film, Andhadhun.
On August 10, 2019, Ayushmann took to his Instagram handle, and wrote an emotional poem on his entire journey. He wrote, "Jab pehli dafaa aaya tha Mumbai tab bhi ho rahi thi baarish. Aaj bhi barkha bahaar hai. Yahaan ki bheed ki tarah sapne thhe aankhon mein hazaar, Aaj bhi umangein tez taraar hain. Maa baap ne nam aankhon se di thi mujhe parvaaz, Aaj bhi unki fikr bargaraar hai. Second class sleeper pe aaya tha is sheher mein doston ke saath, Aaj bhi usi safar ka khumaar hai.Uth kar gira, gir kar utha. Chala. Udaa. Aaj unhi thokaron ki khaatir mere hag mein rashtriya puraskaar hai." His wife, Tahira, who has always supported him commented with two heart emojis. Take a look at it below:
After his win, in an interview with SpotboyE, Ayushmann had shared, "It’s truly humbling and hugely gratifying to win the coveted National Awards. As an artist, I have always tried to back disruptive content that stands out for its quality content. Today’s honour is a validation of my hard work, my belief system, my journey in movies and my reason to be an actor in the first place. Over and above my personal win, I’m thrilled that both the films that I have done - AndhaDhun and Badhaai Ho have won at the prestigious National Awards. It again validates that people of our country want to see cinema that entertains, that they can cherish, discuss and endorse." He had further added, "AndhaDhun is a path-breaking film and Sriram Raghavan deserves all the accolades for creating a new genre of cinema for Indian audiences to enjoy. I have been truly fortunate to be a part of Sriram Raghvan’s vision and congratulate my director for his genius. As an artist, AndhaDhun challenged me and I strongly feel it made me a better actor."
Tahira, who has been a strong support pillar for Ayushmann, didn't really believe in his dream much. In an interview with film critic, Anupama Chopra, she had revealed her first reaction when she came to know that Ayushmann wanted to be an actor. She had said, “This man, my husband told me he wants to be an actor and I literally scoffed you know. I ridiculed him like “Ae shakal dekhi hai? (Have you seen your face?) So I did not believe in him. I was very brutal and I wasn’t even shocked, I laughed. And that’s the worst reaction to give to anybody that you are laughing at the person’s face.”
In an interview, Ayushmann had shared his family's reaction, and had stated, "In Punjabi households, singing, dancing and acting are referred to as kanjarkhaana, which means all things useless. My Maths teacher used to say, ‘Tu toh sirf naach aur gaa sakta hai, aur kuch nahi kar sakta’. When I told my grandmother that I wanted to act, she slapped me."
