Despite living in the 21st century, we have still cocooned our age-old mentalities about various social issues. We must have heard our parents and elders suggesting us to not talk about certain things in public openly and if we have any opinions about them, then we were asked to keep that to ourselves and not talk about it. Talking about sex, rape, LGBTQ community, and many other ‘social stigmas’ are still considered cruel or bad in society. When we call ourselves a ‘developing nation’, do we take all these things into consideration. The clear answer to this is ‘no.’ We only talk about the economy of the country, how much the agriculture sector has developed and all the things that will take India to new heights. But, in the process, we forget that until and unless the mindset of the people will not be changed, we will not become a ‘developed’ country. Bollywood is one place, which has the capability to influence the thought process of the people at a great extent. From encouraging people to speak about so-called social stigmas to make them stand up for a noble cause, we have seen Bollywood movies inspiring people to speak their opinion freely. From making movies on acid attack survivors to same-sex relationships, Bollywood is trying to change the thought process of the audiences by showing them every aspect of society. Ayushmann Khurrana is known for making bold choices when it comes to his selection of movies. The National Award winner has given us many pathbreaking movies which have influenced us in many ways. Ayushmann will be seen next in the movie, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan which is based upon same-sex marriage.
In an interview with the ANI, Ayushmann Khurrana revealed the reaction of his parents after watching the trailer of the movie, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. Ayushmann is the first leading hero to portray the role of a gay man on the big screen. Talking about his parent’s reaction, he said, “When I showed them (parents) the trailer of the film, they absolutely loved it. They saw it on loop and laughed all the way through. I was thrilled with this reaction from them because I realized immediately that the subject, my character has appealed and connected with them.”
Ayushmann, during the same interview, revealed how his parents were in full support of him taking an important film with a strong message and said, “I always talk to my parents about the films that I decide to do and I got tremendous support from them when I told them that I’m going to do Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. They said they were proud of me that I decided to back a film that had a strong message to society. They said it was an important film for the entire country especially the parents because it could give them the right message about raising their children.” (Suggested Read: Aparshakti Khurana Wishes 'Happy Birthday' To Wife, Aakriti Khurana With A Cuddling Cute Picture)
The Khurranas have always been proud of Ayushmann Khurrana and he too, time and again, gives them the reason for the same. In August 2019, he had won the National Award for his movie, Andhadhun and had received applauds and congratulatory messages from everywhere. In an interview with the IANS, Ayushmann had talked about his parents’ reaction after hearing the news of his win and had said, “My father was almost chocking on the phone when we spoke, after hearing the news. The actor had penned a poem and had posted it on social media, to commemorate his bagging the honour. He had written, “Jab pehli dafaa aaya tha Mumbai tab bhi ho rahi thi baarish. Aaj bhi barkha bahar hai. Yahaan ki bheed ki tarah sapne the aankhon mein hazaar, Aaj bhi umangein tez taraar hain. Maa baap ne nam aankhon se di thi mujhe parvaaz, Aj bhi unki fikr barqaraar hai. Second class sleeper me aaya tha is sheher mein doston ke sath, Aaj bhi usi safar ka khumaar hai. Uth kar gira, gir kar utha. Chala. Udaa. Aaj bhi thokaron ki khaatir mere haq mein rashtriya puraskaar hai.”
Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife, Tahira Kashyap had also talked about his victory in an interview with The Times of India and had said, “I was heading for a meeting when I got a barrage of messages that Ayushmann had won a National award. He was on a shoot and he was so thrilled with the news. It’s so amazing that he’s got the highest honour for an actor in our country. My heart is filled with gratitude. Today I feel his risks have really paid off. He stuck to his conviction. I think it’s true that there is enough in the universe for everyone, you just have to strive for it. My husband has been true to his instincts, his efforts and his dedication to the craft. A year ago, no one had expected Andhadhun to find the critical acclaim and commercial success it eventually got and win awards all over the world. The national award just completed the picture for us.” (Must Read: Alaya Furniturewalla Talks About Her Mother, Pooja Bedi's Marriage Plans With Maneck Contractor)
