Karisma Kapoor is a prolific actress who brings life to the character she plays on-screen. Elder daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita Kapoor, she carved a niche for herself in the film industry and mesmerised everyone by adding a personal touch to every character with her emotions. Director, Dharmesh Darshan worked with Karisma on the film, Raja Hindustani, which was released in 1996 and emerged as a big hit.
In an interview with Lehren Retro, Dharmesh Darshan recalled shooting a scene in the film, Raja Hindustani, with Karisma Kapoor and Aamir Khan. The particular scene showed a drunk Aamir embarrassing Karisma's character in front of elite guests at a party and pulling her hair violently. However, the director revealed that Aamir wasn’t comfortable with the level of toxicity in the scene and instead insisted on holding her hand. He said:
“He told me, ‘No, no, no, let’s not do this. Let me hold her hand (instead)’. I thought Aamir could be right. Maybe I was making (the scene) too masculine unnecessarily. I give a lot of respect to my leading ladies, whether I make them kiss or physically expose.”

Dharmesh Darshan also shared an anecdote about Karisma Kapoor and revealed her take on her grandfather, Raj Kapoor's behaviour towards women. Revealing that the actress requested him to go with the original concept for the scene, as she had seen her grandfather pull women's hair sometimes, not just in films but in real life as well. He said:
“She took me to a corner, and she said, ‘I request you, I request you. I’ve seen my grandfather do this sometimes, in real life. Forget his films’. The minute she said this, I went to Aamir Khan, and I said, ‘No, you straight pull her hair. We won’t do one take this and one take that’. This was Karisma Kapoor.”
Dharmesh further heaped praises on Karisma Kapoor for her work ethic and shared that she was very professional on set. Talking about the infamous kiss between her and Aamir in the film, the director revealed that the actress didn't resist it even though she had never done a kissing scene before. He added:
“She was very good on set, she was very excited. I could smell it on her. She was so sincere… She’d never done a kissing scene before. I told her what she would be wearing, the background wouldn’t be ‘sexy’. She said, ‘You don’t need to tell me so much’."

Speaking along the same lines, Dharmesh shared that he narrated the sequence to Karisma's mother, Babita Kapoor, as the actress was still very young. He added that Lolo had a good image back then, so her mother, Babita sat there on the set through the full three days of the shoot. He recalled:
"Then I called Babita ji inside and narrated that sequence. Because Karisma was still very young, and mother can influence, no? And Lolo had a good image; she wasn’t a very noisy girl. Babita ji sat through the full three days of the shoot, and I didn’t send her away.”
