Weddings in India are all about long-lost relatives meeting, gossiping about all the shaadi arrangements and cousins waiting to showcase their designer ensembles. We live in a world where dowry is given in the name of gifts and honour of the family. While many of us happily indulge in this tradition of giving 'so-called' gifts, we are forgetting the true meaning of weddings and are blindly walking the herd walk of destination weddings. But, Gold medalist wrestler-turned-politician, Babita Phogat has given us inspiration with her wedding with Vivek Suhag. On December 1, 2019, Babita and Vivek had tied the knot in an intimate ceremony with only 21 baraatis. Yes, while many of us believe in throwing a big fat wedding party, the duo inspired us by keeping their guest list short. Babita and Vivek's wedding had inspired millions of us for yet another reason. They had taken an extra phera, apart from the saat pheras, which was dedicated to the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative.
Today (on December 4, 2019), the new bride, Babita took to her Instagram handle and shared a couple of pictures with a new car, gifted to her by her husband, Vivek. In the pictures, we can see Babita donning an orange colour ensemble and radiating the bridal glow. Alongside it, she wrote, "What better than a new awesome car to start our new journey together. thank you @suhagvivek for this awesome and considerate gift." Take a look at the picture below:
Coming to Babita Phogat's wedding ensemble, she had worn an exactly similar red bridal lehenga that Priyanka Chopra had worn on her wedding from the ace designer, Sabyasachi Mukherjee. She had looked gorgeous wearing it. On the other hand, Vivek had complemented her perfectly in a beige coloured sherwani. For those who don't know, Babita Phogat and her husband, Vivek Suhag had participated on Nach Baliye 9 to spend some quality time together and to know each other better. And on the same show, Vivek had proposed to her and left us all gushing. However, it was in June 2019, when Babita had officially announced her relationship with Vivek on her official Instagram handle. She had shared a picture with him and along with her father, Mahavir Singh Phogat and the elders of the house. Along with it, Babita had written, "@SuhagVivek you know it's official when you get the blessing from my bapu. It's time for Dilwale to take her Dulhaniya #love #blessing #family #sweetheart #myman #cupid #engaged #lifeline #myhero #TuesdayThoughts."
In an interview with The Times of India, Babita had revealed how she met Vivek. She had shared, “It was an event for wrestlers at a hotel in Delhi where we first met. Bas wahan dosti ho gayi. We stayed in touch and in time, we realised that we liked each other. I like how he is very straightforward but still respects others." Babita had also shared that she will move to Delhi after her wedding.
According to DBPost, before taking the saat pheras, Babita Phogat had expressed her gratitude for becoming a bride. She had shared, “Father did not allow us sisters to doll up, but today the wish has been fulfilled. Today I am very happy after becoming a bride. Very happy after wearing a bridal dress. When we used to go to the wedding ceremony of other girls, we sisters used to wear bangles and rings many times seeing other girls. But Dad did not allow. He often said that your goal should be just wrestling. When the goal is achieved, then do the makeup. I am very happy about wearing a bridal dress."
