Gajraj Rao is a popular actor in the Hindi film industry. He made his acting debut with the film, Bandit Queen in 1994, and since then, he has never looked back. However, his role in the film, Badhaai Ho, co-starring Neena Gupta and Ayushmann Khurrana among others, was one of the most loved ones. Apart from this, he was also seen in many movies and web series. Currently, he is seen in the film, Satyaprem Ki Katha. Although much is known about his professional career, he keeps his personal life away from the media glares. Now, he opened up about his definition of romance and over-possessiveness in a relation.
In a candid interview on the Varun Duggi podcast, Gajraj Rao confessed that he wanted a wife, who would take care of the household. Elaborating more on this, the actor mentioned that this is what acting in cinema for so many years has taught him. He mentioned that someone who would be adjusting and not leave him, would be his ideal match. He said:
“That a wife should be like Jaya Bhaduri, Rekha, and not of Maang Bharo but of Khubsoorat, the one who could take care of the entire household. Parveen Babi of Kaaliya, who makes eggs, the kind who is of an adjusting nature. We were taught this, that the poor husband has lost his job or is ailing, and everything then is the responsibility of the wife. She will not leave him, it is a bond of seven lifetimes. This was fed to us.”

In the same interview, Gajraj revealed that even when a few girls might have liked him, his over-possessiveness drove them away. He mentioned how he made many mistakes as a young lover due to the strong cultural impact of the film and added:
“Because my formulas of romance were from the cinema, I would always make mistakes. Shayad do-chaar ladkiyon ne mujhe pasand bhi kiya ho, par woh ghabra jaati thi baad mein, ki ye aadmi toh bada over possesive hai. It was like, by the fourth meeting I would think that we are married, and now she should behave a certain way. I would ask, ‘Where were you? What had happened? I will drop you home.'”

“We went around for three-four months and she sat me down one day. There was no money, but I wanted to follow the romance of films, didn’t know anything else. She asked me, ‘What do you want to do? Where do you see yourself in five years?’ I started sweating and mumbled, ‘Will continue theatre.’ She asked what I will do to earn money, what will be the next step. I said we will get married! She said where will the money come from? I was a journalist too, so in the following week I did several interviews, published them and showed them to her. She told me, ‘You did this for me, but where do you see yourself?’ And for the first time I thought about myself. She came like a lighthouse and showed me the way, that I can’t be doing amateur theatre, borrowing money from friends and family. I got a jolt, which changed my life.”
Gajraj is now married to the love of his life, Sanjana Rao, and the duo is blessed with two sons.
