Bangladesh is currently leading all the headlines and, unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. The entire nation is cracking down, with thousands of people protesting on the streets. While some of them are conducting peaceful protests, the majority of the protestors are damaging the country's infrastructure due to their extremely violent protests in different parts of the country. Pictures and videos from Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka, are also not so peaceful, and with the passing of each day, things are getting worse.
According to a report in The Times Of India, around 100 innocent people have died in just two days in the violent protests in Bangladesh. Not only this, things took a completely rampaging turn when the protestors entered the Prime Minister's palace. The agitators burnt Awami League President, Sheikh Hasina's office in Dhaka. Yes! You read it right, things have been this bad. After the protestors started targetting PM's palace in Dhaka, Sheikh Hasina left the country on August 5, 2024.

The news shocked the entire world as Hasina's sudden departure from Dhaka confirmed the assumption that things were not at all in control. The former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina arrived at Ghaziabad's Hindon Airport in a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft.
Amidst all the chaos in Bangladesh and Sheikh Hasina's arrival in India, reports are rife that Britain's Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, has hinted at her potential political asylum in the UK. However, things need to be clarified at the moment, and due to the unpredictability of this extreme situation, things can move in any direction.

After Sheikh Hasina resigned from the position of Prime Minister and left the country, Bangladesh's Army Chief General, Waker-Us-Zaman, took things into his own hands. As soon as Hasina left the country, he shared an official statement in which he requested the protestors to stop because a lot of damage had been done to the economy and infrastructure of the country. Waker-Us-Zaman also added that so many people have lost their lives during the protests, and now it's time to stop the violence. He said:
"The country has suffered a lot, the economy has been hit, many people have been killed -- it is time to stop the violence. I hope after my speech, the situation will improve."
For the uninitiated, Sheikh Hasina Wazed, better known as Sheikh Hasina is the longest-serving female Prime Minister in the world. She served as the PM of Bangladesh for a combined total of over 20 years (from June 1996 to July 12, 2001 and January 2009 to August 2024). She is the daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was the first President of Bangladesh and is also renowned as the country's founding father.

Due to her immense popularity in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina ruled the country for two decades, which is hands-down an extraordinary feat. However, during her tenure, she also faced a lot of life-threatening attacks. As per multiple reports, she suffered 19 assassination attacks. In 2004, she was attacked by a grenade that made her suffer from a hearing impairment. For the unversed, her father and former President of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated along with some family members back in August 1975.

In the last month, around 300 people have lost their lives in Bangladesh due to violent protests. Initially, it started as a peaceful student protest, but as of now, it has been taken up by the anti-government elements. Around 11,000 people have been detained by the military and police. For the uninitiated, it all started with the Bangladeshi government's controversial civil service quota system. As per the students, the current quota system favours loyalists of the PM's party, Awami League, which is entirely unfair to the people of Bangladesh.
Not only this, the students also condemned Sheikh Hasina's government for suppressing dissent and autocratic practices. The protestors' other major point is to abolish all job quotas for the children of freedom fighters. While on one side, Sheikh Hasina panicked, the Bangladesh Army extended their indirect support to the protestors by criticising the government for the way they handled the situation. As per reports, Nobel laureate, Muhammad Yunus has agreed to become the Chief Advisor of the interim government, as per the protestors' demands. A final and big meeting with the Army Chief and protestors will take place on August 7, 2024, to decide the future.
The entire world is watching Sheikh Hasina's movement and the crisis in Bangladesh because every step is crucial for them and can either make or break things permanently.
