Filmmaker, Bharathiraja's Son, Manoj Passes Away At The Age Of 48, Leaves Kamal Hassan Shocked

Actor, Manoj Bharathiraja passed away on March 25, 2025. He was also a director and producer and the son of filmmaker, Bharathiraja. The actor is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Manoj Bharathiraja passed away at the age of 48

Manoj Bharathiraja passed away at the age of 48 on March 25, 2025. The actor died at his residence in Chetpet, Chennai, after suffering from a heart attack around 4 in the evening. His body is now being kept at his father, Bharathiraja's residence in Neelankarai in Chennai for friends and the public to pay homage. The actor's last rites will take place at around 4:30 pm on March 26, 2025, at the Besant Nagar crematorium in the city.

Kamal Hassan expresses his shock at Manoj Bharathiraja's passing

Actor, Kamal Haasan expressed his shock upon hearing the passing of Manoj Bharathiraja. He expressed his condolences in a tweet on X. He revealed that he was deeply saddened and shocked by the news of Manoj Bharathiraja's passing. He shared his deepest condolences with Bharathiraja and his family. He was quoted as saying:

"I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear the news of the passing of Manoj Bharathiraja, son of actor, my friend and dearest director Bharathiraja. I express my deepest condolences to Bharathiraja, his family and friends, who are grieving the loss of him."

Other celebrities also expressed their grief about the sudden passing. Filmmaker Venkat Prabhu wrote, "Really shocking to hear the news… can't believe you are no more, my brother. #Manoj gone too soon… Deepest condolences to @offBharathiraja uncle, family, and friends. May your soul rest in peace." Chiyaan Vikram gave Manoj an emotional tribute and stated how he lost a dear friend and the world lost a great storyteller. He stated:

"Today, I lost a dear friend, and the world lost an incredible storyteller. He may no longer walk among us, but he will always live in the laughter, the emotions, and the memories he gave us. Rest in peace, my friend. You will always be missed, but never forgotten."

Actor and politician, Khushbu Sundar also expressed her grief. She expressed her shock about the untimely demise and prayed to the almighty to provide the family with the strength to overcome the loss. The condolences show just how much the actor was loved and cherished by his peers. She stated:

"Extremely shocked to hear that Manoj is not among us anymore. His untimely demise pains. He was just 48 yrs. May God give the strength to his father Thiru #Bharathiraaja avl and his family to overcome this unbearable painful loss. You will be missed Manoj. Rest in peace. Om Shanthi"

Manoj made his acting debut in 1999 with a romantic drama, Taj Mahal. The movie became a significant milestone in Tamil cinema. He also starred in several other notable projects, including Samuthiram, Alli Arjuna, Varushamellam Vasantham, Kadal Pookal, Viruman, and Maanaadu. In 2023, he made his directorial debut with Margazhi Thingal, featuring his father, Bharathiraja, and newcomers, Shyaam Selvan and Rakshana.
