Bobby Deol, lovingly called 'Lord Bobby', has had one rollercoaster of a journey in the film industry. He has faced his fair share of highs and lows, which makes his success a testament to his determination, resilience, and reinvention. The actor struggled for years before the universe finally blessed him with the honour of basking in well-deserved success.
Bobby Deol's stellar portrayal of the menacing 'Abrar Haque' in the mega-blockbuster Animal, alongside Ranbir Kapoor, garnered him widespread acclaim, putting him in the spotlight as one of Bollywood’s most versatile actors. The movie not only reintroduced Bobby to Gen-Z but also reaffirmed his ability to deliver power-packed performances.
2024 opened Bobby's gateway to expand his horizons into the South Indian film industry with Kanguva, starring Suriya. With many projects in the pipeline, Bobby’s career renaissance is nothing short of extraordinary. However, speaking at the third edition of SCREEN Live in Mumbai, Bobby revealed that his family, especially his father, Dharmendra, and brother, Sunny Deol, had been his guiding light during the hard times.
Bobby Deol was joined by his brother Sunny Deol at the event, where he reflected on the trials, errors, wins, losses, and unwavering support that has defined his journey as an actor and as a human being. Bobby shared the credit of his success with his family, as he revealed that his father, Dharmendra and brother, Sunny Deol, had been his unshakable pillars of support. He stated:
"I have been through ups and downs. I have also seen my dad, as a legend, go through ups and downs in his life. I think somewhere, I learned from that. Yet, I kind of started giving up when I was losing the battle. But my brother was always there. So was my whole family, including my mom, dad, sisters, and my wife, who’s like my backbone. So, I was really blessed."
Bobby Deol reflected on his journey toward self-reliance and shared that if someone wants to achieve something in life, one can't wait for someone to push you towards your goal. He added that they have to learn to stand on their own and do what they need to in order to attain their goal. Bobby revealed that is what he did, after which things fell into place for him. "I could be driving down a street, and suddenly, someone would come banging on the door. When I ask, ‘Photo lene aayi hai?’ they would reply, ‘Nahi nahi, aapko bas dua dene aayi ki aap aur aage bade.’ That’s the best achievement for me in life."
In the same conversation, Bobby Deol further shared that his father, Dharmendra's career immensely inspired him. Dharmendra is one of the most legendary actors in the industry; despite having been in the industry for six decades, he is still exceedingly adored by his fans and the film fraternity. Bobby shared that his father had earned his fan's love, and that is what inspired him to become an actor. He elaborated:
"When I was a kid, I used to see my dad at work with other big stars beside him. When people saw them, they would look at other actors with excitement, but when they looked at my dad, I could see only love in their eyes. That’s what I wanted when I became an actor. That’s the best award I could ever achieve in my life."
