The 65th National Film Awards 2018 were held at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi on May 3, 2018. And Sridevi Kapoor was posthumously honoured with the Best Actress award for her last film, Mom. It was an emotional moment for Sridevi’s husband, Boney Kapoor and her daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor when her name was announced on the stage for felicitation. The news of Sridevi Kapoor’s untimely demise got confirmed on the morning of February 25, 2018, which turned the fate for her family and it came as a shock for the nation. Boney Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor released a joint statement expressing their gratitude to the National Film Awards jury, which could be read as, "We are overjoyed to know that the Jury has conferred the Best Actor Award to Sridevi for her performance in ‘MOM’.”
The statement could be further read as, “It’s a very special moment for all of us. She was always a perfectionist and it showed in all the 300 plus films she did. She was not just a Super Actor but a Super Wife and a Super Mom. It’s time to celebrate her life and her achievements. She is not with us today, but her legacy will always live on. We thank the Government of India, the Hon’ble Jury Members for this honour. We also take this opportunity to thank all our friends, her fans who have been sending us congratulatory messages. Sridevi’s family, Boney, Janhvi and Khushi went to receive the award and Boney shared that it is a proud moment to all of them. When asked about the same, he told DD News, “It is a very proud moment at the same time… we miss her. She would have been very happy being here. Aur kya bolu? (What else do I say?).” Boney further added, “We just feel elated, proud that she is being recognised for the hard work she has put in this film. Speaking to the ANI, Boney Kapoor talked about how much they miss Sridevi, especially when she was felicitated with the National award. He quipped, “I'm extremely happy & proud. This is what she's got after working for 50 years in the industry, she would've cherished this award all her life. This's the highest honour. Speaking to DNA, Boney Kapoor said, "I wish she was here. She truly deserved this award. It's so unfortunate that she is not here with us today to celebrate. I am grateful to the government of India, the I&B Ministry and the jury. It is a proud moment for all of us but sadly she is not here." Proud daughter, Janhvi Kapoor was quoted as saying, "I want to thank the jury and the government of India for recognising the hard work my mother has done. It is very special for us as a family."
