Born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyappan, Sridevi was the first actress to gain the title of a female superstar. The stunning actress started her career as a child actor at the age of 4 and went on to play Rajinikanth’s stepmother when she was just 13 years old. With a career spanning over 50 years, Sridevi made a huge contribution to Indian cinema.
The world turned upside down, not just for Sridevi’s family, but for her millions of fans when the news of the actress’ death hit the headlines on February 24, 2018. Sridevi, who went to Dubai to attend her nephew, Mohit Marwah’s wedding, was found dead in her hotel room’s bathroom by her husband. Sridevi’s death broke Boney Kapoor, who still lives with the sweet memories of her in his heart.

On Sridevi’s death anniversary, Boney Kapoor posted two throwback videos from the India Today Woman Summit 2013. In the video, the filmmaker was seen talking about his love story with Sridevi. Revealing how he had seen the actress for the first time, Boney stated that it was in the late 70s when he saw one of her Tamil films and decided to cast her in his film.

As he went to meet the actress on her film's set, the filmmaker revealed that it was almost a dream come true moment for him. The words spoken by Sridevi in her broken English and Hindi touched Boney, and he became more curious to know about her.

Boney further recalled an incident from the time when he went to Sridevi’s mother, who was also her manager to cast her in Mr. India and decided to pay her more than what she quoted. In his words:
“Sri was the highest-paid actor, among the females. She quoted 10 lakhs, and probably, this was her mother's way of negotiating. I heard her figure and I said 'No, I'll pay Rs 11 lakh.' She thought I was a mad producer from Bombay who is offering more than what she asked for! Well, that's how I got close to her mother."

When Sridevi was signed for Mr. India, Boney Kapoor made sure that she got all the comforts while shooting for the film. To pamper her, Boney Kapoor had arranged the best make-up room and three costume designers. He was getting more and more attracted to her and even confessed the same to his ex-wife, Mona Shourie Kapoor. Boney was so much in love with Sridevi that he followed her to the shoot of Chandni. Boney Kapoor had always wanted Sridevi to realise that he would be there for her and gradually, she too had begun reciprocating his love. Talking about the same, Boney shared:
"She saw that this man is too persistent and perhaps realised that I was sincere and not looking for a fling. Somehow, things fell in place."
