It so happened that the bride’s family had arranged her marriage with an eligible bachelor from Balrampur, Chhattisgarh, who’s an engineer by profession. According to the bride’s family, a middleman had claimed that the groom was a government engineer who owned multiple plots of land and lived in rented accommodation in Kannauj. The baraat arrived, and initial rituals like Dwarchar and Jaimala (exchange of garlands) were performed late at night.

While the ceremony was going on in full swing, around 1:00 AM, the bride found out the truth about her groom, that he did not hold a government job but worked in the private sector. The revelation came as a shock to the bride, and she decided to halt the marriage.
The groom, sensing the tension rise, presented his salary slip to the bride and her parents to showcase his monthly income of Rs. 1.20 lakh. Despite the hefty salary, the bride refused to budge, and insisted on marrying someone with a government job.
