Canadian actor, Kenneth Mitchell is a well-known face of the entertainment world. He gained immense fame via CBS' television series, Jericho and for portraying various characters in Star Trek: Discovery. His latest big hit was the 2019 film, Captain Marvel, where he played the role of the superhero, Carol Danvers's father. Apart from these, Kenneth has been featured in movies like Miracle, Tasmanian Devils, Ghost Whisperer, Charms for the Easy Life, Blood Honey, Bones and more.
In 2018, Mitchell was diagnosed with ALS, which is a neurological disorder that affects the brain and spinal cord's nerve cells. Also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, it, throughout its run, causes the patient to lose muscle strength and control. Mitchell, for five and a half years, bravely battled the disease but ultimately succumbed to it.

On February 25, 2024, Kenneth Mitchell's family took to his Instagram account and broke the news of his unfortunate demise to his fans. In the post, they shared that for five and half years, Kenneth put up a brave fight with ALS, but on February 24, 2024, the actor ultimately lost the battle with the deadly disease. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Susan and their two children, Lilah and Kallum. The post further added:
"With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend to many, the statement said. For five and a half years, Ken faced a series of awful challenges from ALS. And in truest Ken fashion, he managed to rise above each one with grace and commitment to living a full and joyous life in each moment."

In the same post, Kenneth's family shared that the actor wanted to become a tree, which is why he wanted to be buried under tree roots. So that when he dies, all his love, laughter, tears, and energy can be soaked up. His statementcan be read as:
"When I die and leave this life, I want to become a tree, a Ginko, White Pine, Jacarande, Lemon, Cedar, Oak, Mytle or Maple. I want to be buried under the roots, so I can be soaked up, all my mater, my energy, my love, my laughter, my tears, and I want to reach up through the branches and touch the night sky."

In a 2020 interview with People Magazine, Kenneth Mitchell revealed that he was in complete shock and disbelief when he was diagnosed with ALS. He shared that it looked like a movie scene when the doctors revealed that he had a terminal illness. After this, he decided to live life to the fullest and spend more time with his family and loved ones. Kenneth also added:
"It was just a complete disbelief, a shock. Like I was watching that scene where someone is being told that they have a terminal illness. This disease is absolutely horrific."
