KBC 16's First Winner, Chander Prakash Makes Big B Emotional Revealing How He Will Spend Rs.1 Crore

Chander Prakash, a 22-year-old UPSC aspirant from Jammu and Kashmir, went on to become the first 'crorepati' of KBC 16 on September 24, 2024. Though he could not answer the Rs. 7 crore question, Chander still went home with an amount Rs. 1 crore from the show. Chander also got a car as well as a hug from  Amitabh Bachchan.

Multiple surgeries didn’t break Chander’s dream

Over the years, Chander has shared his struggles with serious health complications. He also opened up about his heart condition, for which he is continuously undergoing surgery. During the course of the show, Chander talked about his health and added he has had seven surgeries so far. But he still has some problems, so his doctors have advised him to undergo his eighth surgery.  

Listening to Chander's plight, Amitabh Bachchan shared an anecdote narrated by his father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, and said:

“Mere babu ji ne kaha – beta, jab tak jeevan hai, tab tak sangharsh hai (My father once told me, you struggle till the day you die).” 

KBC 16 winner Chander commits winnings to health care and honoring parents' sacrifices

The first Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 winner said, that he will use the prize money for his treatment and also wants to pay off loans. He added, he would be giving the money to his parents since they did a lot for him. Chander told Senior Bachchan:

 "I will give the entire amount to my parents. They have sacrificed a lot for me. I will use the money for my health treatment and financial crisis."

Unlocking victory: The key question that made Chander KBC 16's 'first crorepati'

Coming back to the Rs. 1 crore question which was, “The largest city in which country is not its capital but a port with an Arabic name that means ‘abode of peace’? The options were: A) Somalia, B) Oman, C) Tanzania, and D) Brunei.” Opting for the double dip lifeline, Chander gave the correct answer as Tanzania. After Chander locked the answer, Big B exclaimed, 'Ek crore!' He also announced that Chander won a car, after which the contestant went on to attempt the Rs. 7 crore question.

Big B asked Chander the Rs. 7 crore question. It was, 'Who was the first recorded child born to English parents in North America in 1587?' Since Chander didn't know the answer and had exhausted his lifelines, he quit the show. When Amitabh asked Chander to guess, he correctly guessed the answer later. 

Over the years, several heart-warming stories have been shared on the Amitabh Bachchan-hosted quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 (KBC 16). Big B congratulated the winner and said:

“Your dedication has brought you here, and persistence, as they say, is sometimes the best quality. You’ve held onto it, and that’s why you stand at this significant juncture.”
