Sanjeev Kapoor’s love story with Alyona is no less than a Bollywood film as they first met on a train journey. It was none other than Alyona’s elder sister, Vandana, who played cupid between them. Vandana and Sanjeev were colleagues and worked together at ITDC Varanasi.
It was while Alyona travelled to Varanasi to meet her sister, Vandana, she met Sanjeev on the train. He was travelling to Patna via Varanasi, and both of them ended up taking the same train. During the journey, Alyona felt the chills of the cold weather, and Sanjeev offered to lend his warm hands. In a conversation with Amrita Rao and RJ Anmol on the YouTube channel, Couple of Things, Sanjeev recalled the same and said:
“Her hands were getting cold, my hands were warm so I just offered her my hand and she held it. It was a long train journey. We were both sitting on the aisle so anytime anyone had to pass through, our hands would separate but then we would hold hands again.”

Alyona lived with her family in New Delhi, and Sanjeev used to pay her frequent visits. They used to spend time with each other, and during that time, Sanjeev had to go to New Zealand for two years. But before he went, Alyona confessed her feelings to him, and his reply won her heart. Talking about the same in an interview with The Times of India, Alyona said:
“Sanjeev had to go for two years to New Zealand. Once or twice before that, we went out to spend time and while he was dropping me home I confessed, "I think I am in love with you." Sanjeev replied, "I don't think, I know I am in love with you.”
The couple had a long-distance relationship for nearly two years. However, their love only grew with time and distance. After dating for around five years, Sanjeev and Alyona tied the knot in October 1992. The couple is blessed with two beautiful daughters, Rachita Kapoor and Kriti Kapoor.
