The popular comedian and actor, Kapil Sharma is undoubtedly one of the few celebrities in India with zero haters. For years, he has been entertaining Indians with his celebrity comedy show, The Kapil Sharma Show. However, he is currently in the headlines as his upcoming film, Zwigato, will soon hit theatres after making waves on the international stage in multiple film festivals. The film is directed by the critically-acclaimed filmmaker, Nandita Das, and the comedian portrays the role of a food delivery boy in the movie. Ahead of his film’s release, in a recent interview, Kapil talked about the most challenging phase of his life.
In a recent interview with India TV, Kapil Sharma opened up about the darkest phase of his life and recalled how alcohol became a part of his life. The ace comedian revealed that he never had a drinking problem, but because of anxiety, he couldn’t meet people, and there was even a time when he wasn’t sure whether he would be able to hold a mic and perform on stage or not.

While sharing the details of his life’s most tragic and depressing phase, Kapil revealed how one day, Amitabh Bachchan came to the studio to do a voice-over for his film, and he was supposed to welcome Big B. However, he couldn’t go and meet Big B on time because of his anxiety problem. Kapil further added that he was unable to go out of his house and hence decided to have two drinks so that he could suppress his anxiety. Recalling his absurd decision, Kapil said:
"Mujhe drinking problem kabhi nahi rahi, anxiety ka problem raha jis wajha se mujhe aisa lagta tha ki main kisi ke saamne nahi jaa paunga, baat nahi kar paunga, stage pe mic nahi pakad paunga. Bachchan sahab ne bola ki main subha aaraha hoon. Kyuki meri film ke voice over ke liye aarahe the toh mera farz banta hai ki main jaake unke welcome ke liye khada rahun. Main bahar nahi nikal pata tha ghar se, awastha waise thi toh mujhe laga 2 (drinks) le lete hai pahuch jaate hai."
Further, in the same interview, Kapil Sharma revealed that it was 8 in the morning when Amitabh Bachchan entered into the studio for his recording. The comedian revealed that Big B had reached the studio on time and even finished the recording of his film when he reached the studio after taking two drinks. Kapil admitted that it was an embarrassing situation for him, and when he met him inside the studio, he immediately touched his feet to seek blessings. Recalling the same, Kapil said:
"Subhe ki baat hai, woh 8 baje pohch gaye aur andar dubbing kar chuke the. Jab main pohcha toh unhone bola ho gayi hai ab woh apni film ki karrahe hai. Maine kaha mujhe Bachchan sahab se milke ‘Thank you’ bolna hai. Maine jaake unke pair chuee aur bola ‘Thank you’."

At the end of his interview, Kapil Sharma shared that he felt so bad after meeting Amitabh Bachchan while being drunk that he decided to send him a personal apology. The comedian revealed that he apologised to Big B and apologised for coming in front of him drunk. However, Kapil admitted that the way Big B responded to his apology simply made him an even bigger fan of the iconic actor. Revealing what he said to him, Kapil stated that Big B sent a message in Hindi to him in which he told him that life is all about difficulties, and it motivated him a lot. Revealing Amitabh Bachchan’s message, he said:
"Sir, sorry mujhe aise aapke saamne nahi aana chhaiye tha. Fir unhone Hindi mein bada aacha message likha ki jeevan chunotiyon ka hi doohra naam hai. Toh aap uthke dobara khade hoiye."
On the professional front, Kapil Sharma will be next seen in the film, Zwigato, which will hit theatres on March 17, 2023.
