Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor’s whirlwind romance was one of the most talked about relationships in Tinseltown back in the 2000s. The two met while shooting the Siddharth Anand film, Bachna Ae Haseeno and fell passionately in love. Deepika and Ranbir dated for two years before parting ways in 2009, reportedly after the latter cheated on the actress with Katrina Kaif.
Recently, we stumbled upon a video in which Deepika talked about her breakup with Ranbir Kapoor. The clip is from one of the old episodes of Karan Johar’s talk show, Koffee With Karan. When KJo asked the actress to share how she coped after her relationship with Ranbir ended, she said it was ‘tough’ for her. She revealed that the relationship had become her world and that she had never made efforts to have a life of her own. She said:

“It was very, very difficult for me because somewhere, that relationship became my world. I was new to the city, and his friends became my friends, and that life became my life. I don’t think I made the effort to have my own life. That relationship really taught me a lot when it ended. It’s made me a better person today. He says it himself.”

Meanwhile, when a clip of Neetu Kapoor, Ranbir’s mother, was played on Simi Grewal’s chat show, India’s Most Desirable's segment called 'Meet the Parents,' she shared her thoughts on Ranbir and Deepika’s breakup. She discussed that her son was not himself during the relationship. In the pre-recorded video clip, Neetu Kapoor said that her son never had many girlfriends and had just one, which was Deepika. Sharing that something was missing in their relationship, Neetu said:
“I don’t think he’s had many girlfriends. He’s had just one girlfriend and that’s Deepika. I think maybe there was something missing in their relationship. There was something not there. Maybe he was not himself, and he needed to break off. Everybody has relationships, and they move on. If their relationship was perfect, they wouldn’t have broken up. Ranbir was probably not himself in the relationship.”
A while back, in a candid conversation with Nikhil Kamath on his YouTube talk show, People by WTF, Ranbir Kapoor discussed that he had been tagged a ‘cheater’ and a ‘casanova’ ever since he dated two very famous actresses in Bollywood, seemingly hinting at Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif. In the teaser, the actor shared that he has been living with the same to date. In his words:
“I have dated two very successful actresses in the past, which became my identity. I got the tag of being a casanova and a cheater. I have lived with the label of being a cheater for a very large part of my life. I am still living with it.”

Well, time stops for no one, and it was the same for Deepika and Ranbir. After their nasty breakup, the two moved on in their respective lives. Deepika found love in the arms of Ranveer Singh, and they got married in 2018. At present, the couple is even expecting their first child. Meanwhile, Ranbir settled down with Alia Bhatt in 2022, and they welcomed their first child, Raha Kapoor, in the same year.
