Deepika Padukone is one of the highly bankable actresses of this generation. From giving one after the other blockbuster hit films, endorsing international brands, becoming a producer, and owning several labels in her name to many other achievements, Deepika has already done everything in her 37 years of age. However, the actress is only a higher secondary pass. Although the actress was also a student at Anupam Kher’s acting school, Anupam Kher’s Actor Prepares, and did a diploma course, she didn't pursue higher education. In an old interview, she talked about the same and also revealed her parents' reaction to it.
We stumbled upon an old video from the book launch of Hema Malini’s biography, Beyond The Dream Girl, in 2017. In the video, Deepika was seen gracing the event and opening up about her sacrifices. She also discussed her educational background and revealed why she couldn't pursue higher education after class 12th. For the event, she opted for a red benarasi saree paired with gold jewellery and looked glamorous.

During the course of the event, Deepika mentioned that it was only her sacrifices and extreme dedication which helped her reach where she was that day. She confessed to being a 12th pass and revealed that she had to sacrifice going to college to make her career. Revealing how her sacrifice was a price she had to pay to go ahead in her career, Deepika said:
“You know like I said there are sacrifices. You have to be extremely dedicated. For example, I haven’t gone to college.”
Further, Deepika shared that since she was climbing the ladder of success as a model, it was tough for her to manage her studies. She mentioned that although she was a Bangalore-based model then, she had to travel to Mumbai and Delhi frequently. Thus, she couldn't keep up with her education. She added:
“I finished my 11th and 12th. And even during my 11th and 12th, I just about managed to finish because I was already a very successful model by that time and I was based in Bangalore. But I used to keep travelling to Mumbai and Delhi for work. And I couldn’t keep up.”

In the same conversation, Deepika shared how she even tried to get a degree in distance education as well. However, she was unable to complete that too. Thus, she had to leave behind the idea of further education. But her parents weren't comfortable with the same, and it was only when they understood her passion towards acting that they accepted it. In Deepika's words:
“I tried to do one year of my degree through college. I couldn’t do that. Then I tried to do distance education. I couldn’t complete that as well. So, I am just a 12th pass. My parents had a big issue with that ‘they always wanted me to start working only after a basic degree. But along the way they realised how passionate I was about what I wanted to do. And I think I wouldn’t have been able to achieve what I did without their support.”
