Popular actor, Dhanush has starred in a number of films over the years. After mesmerising fans with his performances, he stepped into Bollywood with the 2013 blockbuster hit film, Raanjhanaa, directed by Aanand L Rai. However, he wasn't the first choice for the film. Now, the film's director has opened up about the same.
In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Aanand L Rai walked down memory lane and revealed what worked in his filmmaking career. The filmmaker revealed that it was the time when his film, Tanu Weds Manu, starring Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan, became a hit, he understood what type of films people were wanting to see. He figured out that true stories and casting worked in their case.

Aanand L Rai further revealed that Ranbir Kapoor was the first choice to play the lead in Raanjhanaa. However, the actor wasn't available at that time. Thus, Dhanush eventually pulled off the part. The film's director added:
“If I had more faith in myself, I would have made Tanu Weds Manu 2. But I and Himanshu (Sharma) felt that a story like Raanjhanaa needed to be told. An actor who keeps himself simple and lets himself blend into the crowd, which is a difficult thing, I believe, is Ranbir Kapoor, but he was not available at that time and as we were searching for such an actor, we found Dhanush.”
Dhanush was indeed destined for Raanjhanaa, and his emotion made him a nationwide star overnight. Due to his smashing debut in Bollywood, he also bagged a number of awards and acclamations. Apart from him, the film also starred Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol, Swara Bhasker, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in key roles.

After Raanjhanaa, Aanand L Rai and Dhanush reunited in the 2021 romantic film, Atrangi Re. The film starred Dhanush alongside Sara Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles, leaving an impact on the audiences. Now, as per a report in Pinkvilla, Dhanush has been again collaborating with the filmmaker for an upcoming movie named Tere Ishk Mein.
As per the same report, Tere Ishk Mein might also star Kriti Sanon opposite Dhanush, and filmbuffs will be able to see a fresh new pair on-screen. The report also stated that the film's shoot will likely begin in October 2024, while the film will be tentatively released in 2025. A source close to the project revealed to the portal:
“Kriti Sanon heard the narration from Aanand L Rai a couple of months back and has shown interest in getting into the world of this action love story. The story aside, the actress has also liked her character’s arc and the way it transforms in the story.”
