Dia Mirza is well-known for her stint in the 2001 film, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, which is hailed as one of the most-loved romantic Bollywood films till date. The film also marked Dia Mirza and R Madhavan's Bollywood debut, and the duo won hearts with their chemistry in lead roles. While RHTDM is often tagged as a classic, on several occasions, the film was called out over its stereotypes.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Dia Mirza opened up about her debut film, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein and its characters. Talking about the same, the actress made a shocking revelation and shared that she was uncomfortable with the way R Madhavan's character, 'Maddy', was stalking her back then in the film. Adding that she continues to feel the same way, Dia said:
"I was uncomfortable when Maddy's character was stalking me. Although Reena (Dia's character) acknowledges it. She gives it off to him. She has that moment when she tells him off. What works that people get past that notion, that it's okay, is the fact that Maddy's character, at the end of the value, has very strong values, is respectful, is kind, is well-intentioned, most importantly."

When Dia was asked if her character 'Reena' made the right choice while choosing her partner between 'Maddy' and 'Sam', the actress said that she wondered why 'Reena' would leave a good man like 'Sam'. For the unversed, the character of 'Sam' was played by Saif Ali Khan in the film. Reflecting on the same, Dia said:
“Arey ab kya bole. Main ye bhi sochti thi ki Saif itna achha aadmi hai, wo usko chhod ke kyu chali jayegi. And wo Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam mein dikhaya tha. So it's very interesting ki ek aisi film aati hai jo aapko ye point of view dikhati hai, ek aisi aati hai jo aapko wo point of view dikhati hai."
Meanwhile, in an interaction with Bollywood Bubble, Dia Mirza opened up about facing rejections in the film industry. Talking about the same, she shared that she didn’t come from a privileged or filmy background and had to earn her way into the film industry. Speaking along the same lines, Dia mentioned how she was frequently rejected by a number of A-listed filmmakers, just because she was good-looking. Reflecting on her past experiences, Dia revealed how she had started out in the world of cinema merely at the age of 18 without any Godfather in the industry. She had started out completely alone in Mumbai, so she had to manage everything on her own.
