Dia Mirza Opens Up On Her Bonding With Stepfather, Ahmed, Adds Why She Missed The Security Blanket

Bollywood actress, Dia Mirza is known for her stunning acting skills and constantly creating awareness toward the environmental problems. In addition, she is also loved for her dedication to her family. For the unversed, she had tied the knot for the second time with the once-married man, Vaibhav Rekhi on February 14, 2021. And two months into her wedding, in July 2021, Dia and her hubby were blessed with a baby boy, Avyaan. However, Dia's unbreakable bond with her stepdaughter, Samaira Rekhi is also truly inspirational.

For the uninitiated, it seems that Dia Mirza's bonding with her step-daughter, Samaira Rekhi is inspired by her own journey. Dia's biological father, Frank Handrich was a German artist by profession. And when Dia was four and a half years old, her parents separated. Not only this, Dia's father had left for the heavenly abode when she was only nine years old. After that, her mother, Deepa tied the knot with a Hyderabadi Muslim, Ahmed Mirza and the actress used to share a warm bond with him. Unfortunately, Dia’s stepfather later died in 2003, leaving a big void in her heart.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Dia Mirza opened up about her relationship with her late biological father, Frank Hendrich and her late stepfather, Ahmed Mirza. Narrating an incident related to her German father's artistic works, Dia shared how much proud she feels to be his daughter. She said:

“I come from mixed lineage, my father was German and my mother is Bengali; my father was a very interesting man, someone who I really look up to and admire. Unfortunately, I lost him when I was only nine years old, but I have newspaper clippings that talk about his workshops that he conducted with teachers, that talk about his art... the paintings that he made or the sculptures that he made. I know people who still have pieces of his furniture. In fact, just recently someone reached out saying that they had a dining table set which he made, and offered to let me have it. So people are actually sending back certain pieces of his crat to me."

In the same conversation, she mentioned that her biological father's death took time for her to realise what was happening and how she managed to console herself. Adding to this, she mentioned her stepfather and what values he had imbibed in her. She added:

"I lost him when I was very young, my parents were separated when he died, and it took me some time to not just accept that he was no more but is like closure nahi mila, because I didn’t see him, I didn’t see his body, I didn’t fully understand that he was gone and I would never see him again. I loved my step farther, he was a remarkable man a lot of what I have learned in life especially the values that have held me in good stead and this is something I can vouch for, are all values that he gave me.”

Elaborating on the same, Dia mentioned how her stepfather, Ahmed Mirza never took the place of her biological father, moreover, he had made a beautiful bond with her. She also explained why she adopted his surname after she joined the Miss India pageant. She concluded:

“We (Dia and Ahmed) had a very very beautiful relationship, that started off as friendship and then I think as I grew older and I recognized that I had spent more years of my life with him and him as a parent, he just became more and more my father, and that’s why I took on his surname when I joined the Miss India pageant. It was amazing how he never tried to take my father's place but made his own place in my heart. Unfortunately, I lost him as well, when I was 23, and that was a huge, huge, huge loss because I think whatever said and done, the security blanket that a father figure gives you in life, nobody else can. And when you lose a father that young, and I had lost two fathers within one lifetime it was very hard.”
