Dilip Kumar was undoubtedly the legendary, evergreen icon of his times. The actor was the befitting king of celluloid and won the hearts of millions of his fans. Some of his classic films like Mughal-E-Azam, Devdas, Naya Daur, Sagina among so many others, continue to pull a chord in the hearts of his die-hard fans. In his personal life, he was married to his 22-year-younger co-star, Saira Banu. The duo stayed together till Dilip’s last breath in 2021.
Post Dilip Kumar’s death, his wife, Saira Banu and other family members have constantly tried to preserve every little of his belongings and kept his memory alive. However, as per recent reports, the family has now agreed to demolish the actor’s iconic bungalow in the posh locality of Pali Hill in Mumbai. The bungalow rested on a whopping space of over half-of-an-acre land, will be remodelled into a luxurious multi-storeyed residential complex. The new project, which is estimated to be completed by 2027 will span over 11 floors, and is deemed to generate a revenue of over Rs. 900 crores. Moreover, the new property will also have a designated space for a museum, built in honour of the late actor, and will have a separate entry to it.

For the unversed, Dilip Kumar’s Pali Hill bungalow was embroiled in a legal dispute since 2017, when a real-estate company claimed the property to its own name, using fraudulent documentation. Back then, Dilip’s wife, Saira Banu had fought a long legal case for the same in the Supreme Court, and was finally able to win back the keys of the esteemed property. Fast forward to today, the bungalow has been offered to the Ashar Group for its remodelling.
Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu tied the knot in 1966, and enjoyed their marital bliss of over 55 years until the former’s death. However, the duo was not blessed with any child, so as to carry forward the legacy of the supremely talented couple. Speaking on the same lines, Dilip Kumar, in one of his earlier interviews with the Hindustan Times, had revealed harbouring no regrets about not having a child in their lives. He had mentioned:
“It would have been great if we had our own kids. But we have no regrets. We are both submissive to the will of God. As for incompleteness, I must tell you that neither Saira nor I can complain of a lack of contentment. It is enough for us that we have our families to share our happiness and our small dismays with.”

Fast forward to today, Saira Banu has re-shaped her life post the demise of her dear husband, Dilip Kumar. She even made her social media debut, and has been sharing fond memories and pictures of her life. Saira Banu once dropped a throwback picture of Dilip Kumar from her archives. In the picture, Dilip sahab could be seen posing happily in a rain-fed farmland, wearing a mackintosh and carrying an umbrella in his hand. Along with it, she penned a special caption, where she remembered her magical proposal from Dilip sahab on a rain-soaked evening by the Juhu beach. In her words:
“Many years ago as we walked by Juhu Beach in the quiet of a wondrous night, there was a sudden shower of rain and he protectively took off his jacket and draped it around my shoulders... that was the magical night that we sat in his car and he asked me... Will you marry me?”
