Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra are grabbing all the headlines for some time now, courtesy of their upcoming film, Amar Singh Chamkila. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film is based on the tragic real lives of the Punjabi singer couple, Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife, Amarjot Kaur. The film has been extra special, as the two actors have not only performed the titular roles, but also has lent their voices to the songs. For the unversed, while Diljit is an already established singer, Parineeti has recently forayed into live singing.
In an interview with Film Companion, Diljit Dosanjh, during the promotion of his film, Amar Singh Chamkila talked about both his and his co-star, Parineeti Chopra’s singing skills. He mentioned that scaling up to the original singing duo, Amar Singh and Amarjot Kaur was impossible for them, since they used to sing in an enormously high pitch. Moreover, he talked about being uncertain of Parineeti’s singing skills to match up and stated:
“Even Parineeti, I did not have expectations from her because Amarjot’s part was tougher. Amarjot used to sing in a very high pitch. So, we have tried. I cannot sing like Chamkila and Parineeti cannot sing like Amarjot. We have only tried. Since in the film it is connected to the story, people might like it.”

Moving forth in the conversation, Diljit Dosanjh remarked how incredibly difficult it was for him to try to copy the original style of singing by Amar Singh Chamkila. While the high pitch and tonality are obvious reasons, he added that several people are already aware of the songs sung by Chamkila and so it looked quite odd. In his words:
“It was tough. It was difficult because people have heard Chamkila’s songs like rhymes. So if someone else is singing it, it will 101 per cent look odd. But we have tried and AR Rahman sir’s team has helped us a lot.”
Previously, while speaking to Ranveer Allahbadia on his podcast, Diljit Dosanjh turned over to an unheard anecdote of his life and talked about the strained equation he has had with his parents.
