Dimple Kapadia Shares WHY She Was Shattered After Marrying Rajesh Khanna, 'My Dream Was Shattered'

Dimple Kapadia is one of the most successful actresses of the 1960s and 1970s. At a very young age, the diva tied the knot with superstar Rajesh Khanna because she was head over heels in love with him. However, the duo separated after eight years of marriage but never officially divorced.

Dimple Kapadia shared why her dreams were shattered after marrying Rajesh Khanna

Dimple Kapadia shared in an interview with FICCI FLO Jaipur Chapter that when she married Rajesh Khanna, she was very young and thought life to be like a film. She expected Rajesh Khanna to sing Mere Sapno Ki Rani Kab Aayegi Tu for her, which wasn't practical in real life. In Dimple's words:

"Because I am such a filmy kid, you know I actually thought Rajesh Khanna ji would sing 'Mere Sapno Ki Rani Kab Aayegi Tu'. He will take me to the mountains and sing."

Dimple added that she was so young that she perceived films as reality. However, her dreams were shattered when nothing that sort happened. For the unversed, Dimple Kapadia married Rajesh Khanna in 1973 and separated in 1982. Dimple further added: 

"I swear I am not lying, because I was so young. And there was such an impact of the movies. Toh jab mountains pe pohanche aur gaana bhi nahi hua, hawa bhi nahi chali toh meri toh haalat kharab ho gayi, because my dream was shattered. Because I seriously believed it. I mean how dumb can you get? But well that was me."

Dimple Kapadia once recalled how Twinkle Khanna handled her separation from Rajesh Khanna

Dimple Kapadia, in a 2018 event, recalled her separation from Rajesh Khanna and also revealed how their daughter, Twinkle, handled it. In a video shared by Brut India on their Instagram handle, Dimple was asked who is more like a mother in the family, and without any hesitation, Dimple named, 'Twinkle'. While talking about Twinkle and how she takes care of her family, Dimple shared about her daughter's unwavering support during her separation from Rajesh was a testament to her strong character.

Dimple revealed that Twinkle, at the tender age of seven or eight, displayed remarkable maturity when she moved out of Rajesh Khanna's home. Her sole concern was to take care of her mother and ensure her well-being. Dimple was quoted as saying:

"She was an amazing child. She must have been all of, I think, seven or eight when I got separated. And the kind of maturity (she showed). She was only wanting to take care of me, to see if I am okay, if everything is alright with me and… There's a lot of things I can't say but she was a like my friend. She was like a friend to me, then she turned into a monster mother so that's how she is today."
