There was a time when Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik used to get compared with iconic cricketer, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. However, later in his career, he couldn’t replicate the performances that he used to deliver in the biggest tournaments or crucial series during his youthful days. Currently, he is the captain of the Tamil Nadu cricket team and plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The current generation of cricket fanatics would never be able to understand how great Dinesh Karthik was back in the day. As of now, Dinesh is also getting a lot of rave reviews for his commentary. The cricketer made his debut in the commentary box during India-England T20I and ODI series.

Dinesh Karthik's sexist comments while commentating during the 2nd ODI between England and Sri Lanka

The popular Indian cricketer, Dinesh Karthik is all over the headlines as he is facing a lot of heat for his comments about cricket bats. The cricketer-turned-commentator shocked everyone when he made a disappointing sexist comment about women during the 2nd ODI between England and Sri Lanka. The cricketer compared cricket bats with ‘neighbours’ wives’. Yes! You read it right. During the 2nd ODI, Dinesh shared how bats are like someone else’s wife and how every cricketer never like their bats and always finds other players’ bat better. The misogynist comment from Dinesh irked millions of people across the nation. In his words:

"Batsmen and not liking bats, they go hand in hand. Most of the batters don’t seem to like their bats. They either like another person’s bat. Bats are like a neighbour's wife. They always feel better."

During the commentary duties of the 3rd ODI between England and Sri Lanka, Dinesh Karthik apologised for his sexist remarks. The cricketer admitted that his wife, Dipika Pallikal and his mother, Padmini Krishnakumar scolded him over his derogatory comments. The cricketer also added that he got it all wrong but admitted that he never intended what he said. It was just a bad day at the office, as per the cricketer. Dinesh said:

"I want to apologise for what happened last game. It's not really what I intended. I just got it all wrong. I apologise to everybody. It's definitely not the right thing to say. I got a lot of stick from my wife and my mum for saying that. I am really sorry that it shouldn't happen again."

Apart from his cricketing career, Dinesh Karthik’s personal life has always been in the headlines. For the unversed, Dinesh had gotten married to the love of his life, Nikita Vanjara back in 2007. However, after some years into their married life, Nikita fell in love with cricketer, Murli Vijay. The couple got divorced after the love scandal made its way into the public. After his heartbreaking divorce from his childhood lover and wife, Nikita, Dinesh found love again in squash champion, Dipika Pallikal. It was in 2015 when Dinesh and Dipika got married, and since then, they’ve been leading a happy married life.
