One word, eight letters and it had created storm in the entertainment industry, be it the B-town or the television world. Nepotism has become a word that we often hear in the news headlines or read on social media, and now, even celebs speak on the prevalence of favouritism in the industry. While some give a reality check on the bitter truth of the industry that has hampered their careers, some have been misusing it in an easy way to target the big-shots. TV star, Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya has now come out to speak on the importance of acknowledging individual talent and stopping the cycle of nepotism. Beginning her career as an anchor on All India Radio, Bhopal, Divyanka Tripathi had shot to fame with Zee TV show, Banoo Main Teri Dulhann. Soon, Divyanka had become a household name and once again, she had touched the hearts of her audience as Ishi Ma in Ekta Kapoor's show, Ye Hai Mohabbatein. YHM became even more special to Divyanka has she found her soulmate on the show and in 2016, she had added Dahiya to her name after her wedding with her co-star, Vivek Dahiya. Divyanka and Vivek have been living their 'happily ever after' since then and making the most of their married life, especially during the lockdown.
Amidst the ongoing debate on nepotism, Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya spoke on a different perspective of the issue and how individual talent must be acknowledged instead of addressing them as someone's daughter/son/spouse/child. To condemn news portals for addressing Vivek Dahiya as her husband instead of giving him an identity of his own, Divyanka shared a series of tweets. Retweeting a now-deleted link, Divyanka tweeted, "Why don’t they refer to it as @VivekDahiya08 and wifey? It wasn’t even my post! I’m here since eons but does the industry give new talent much deserved respect? Let’s not cry fowl on name of nepotism. Vicious circle starts here! Not targeting one. Pointing at a common practice." Expressing that everyone deserves to be recognised by their own work, Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya continued, "Why are the attachments needed to address people-someone's daughter, son, spouse? Unless news and all in general start respecting sole identities, nepotism won't stop. Everyone wants to be known by their own work." Asking everyone to stop referring to people with their relatives or spouse's names, Divyanka ended with "If celebs adhere by the attachments given, you call them nepotist and if they don't they are referred to as 'insecure'! STOP THIS CYCLE OF USING NAMES OF SPOUSES AND RELATIVES! Allow individuality to prevail. #AcceptIndividualTalent #StopNepotism #EqualityForAll."

Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya and Vivek Dahiya are often surrounded with the speculations of having trouble in their paradise. Vivek’s fame is also compared to Divyanka’s fame and her celebrity status is often reported as the reason behind their differences. In a throwback interview with The Times Of India, Vivek had clarified, “Divyanka inspires me as an actor, as she has made it on her own. She hails from a small town and joined the industry over a decade before me. There is no competition or insecurity. These rumours are a work of fiction. We are so happy together that detractors want to pull us down. I find it stupid to even comment on my marriage or being compared to her. I am confident as an actor and am growing every day. Divyanka is supportive and both of us want to have our own journey as artistes. We don’t discuss work at home unless we feel the need to. What works for us is the fact that there is no communication gap. We don’t have any reservation about sharing our deepest thoughts with each other, we are transparent.” (Also Read: Priyanka Chopra Jonas Reveals Her Favourite Dish Prepared By Hubby, Nick Jonas, Calls It Amazing)
