Dolly Singh is one of the most popular social media influencers. She enjoys an impressive fan following of 1.6 million on Instagram, and another 699K on YouTube. Dolly started her career as a content creator for her blog titled, Spill The Sass. However, it was gradually her comic sketches as the character of ‘Raju Ki Mummy’ that gave her massive fandom.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Dolly Singh opened up about facing harrowing experiences of body-shaming as a teenager and mentioned she was always criticised for her thin figure and appearance right from her childhood. Sharing how it led her to feel ugly about herself, Dolly said:
“Some people really don’t care, unko bass bolna hai aur unka kuch nahi kiya jaa sakta. I have heard many things growing up. From my parents, to relatives to schoolmates to teachers. Unko lagta tha that they are doing it out of concern. ‘Tum itni patli ho ke tumhara kuch ho jayega’. I was so young, and sometimes when I think about it, a young girl or a young kid should not be thinking about all this. But you have so much weight and baggage of just thinking that you are ugly. A 6-7 year old thinks that she is ugly and it is sad.”

In the same interaction, Dolly mentioned how, as a teenager, she never wanted to click pictures and hated to see herself in the mirror. She even expressed that she forgot to smile for the longest time while growing up. In her words:
“My teenage years were so harrowing that I didn’t take a picture. I used to hate myself so much that I have those 5-7 years where I don’t have a picture of myself because I hated looking at myself, didn’t want to capture any of it. So, even if you look your prettiest best, you will have insecurities because people will have made you have them."
Moreover, Dolly then revealed how, due to her lack of confidence in herself, she stopped smiling in pictures she took, despite having a knack for clicking fashion pictures. Revealing how the internet gave her the power to manifest herself according to her dreams, Dolly said:
Because I would take fashion pictures, I would not smile. I would hide my smile for years. I was still like 20-21 where I was not smiling khul ke. Then, the internet gave me the power which made me realize that it does not matter. It’s okay if my teeth are like this, I can still smile and let it be.”
