Emraan Hashmi's debut film was made by his uncles, Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt. At the same time, his grandmother, Purnima Das Verma, was a famous actress in the 40s and 50s. Despite this, Emraan was shocked when he witnessed industry politics. He explained that it has a lot to do with PR and political leanings. He said:
"I was too young to understand that. I came in when I was 19 years old. I was innocent and immature because I had just come out of college. I realised that it's got to do a lot with PR and people who're political in their stance. Success is made up of a lot of complicated little things. It's not as simple as 'you're a good actor and so you'll get success.' There are a lot of dimensions to it that need to play out."
