Dharmendra and Hema Malini have made a mark for themselves in Bollywood, which is hard to attain. While he is the ‘He Man’ of Bollywood, she is the Dream Girl. They had tied the knot on August 21, 1979, despite Dharmendra being a married man already. The superstar couple of Bollywood was blessed with their first child on November 2, 1981, and named her Esha Deol. Later, in 1985, they had welcomed their second child, Ahana Deol.
While Esha Deol was great with sports, she chose to make her mark in Bollywood just like her star parents. With the film, Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe in the year 2002, Esha had made her Bollywood debut, proving that she is not just a star kid. She had taken a sabbatical and had made her come back to Bollywood a few months after the birth of her firstborn, Radhya. During her second pregnancy, she had written a book on her experiences of motherhood titled, Amma Mia.

While Esha Deol has done many films in her acting career, she is still compared with her parents, Dharmendra and Hema Malini. In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Esha talked about being constantly compared with her star parents. Sharing that initially, it was overwhelming, but now it has toughened up, Esha said, “My fist size is always compared to my father and everyone. I think I have lived up with a big fist (laughs). Jokes apart, yes right from my first film being compared to two legends, it has been part of my journey. Initially, it was overwhelming and I think over the years you toughen up. And say it is okay! It will always be there.”
Did you know Dharmendra was against Esha Deol’s decision to enter Bollywood? On The Kapil Sharma Show in 2020, Hema Malini had talked about her husband, Dharmendra’s reaction to their daughter, Esha’s entry into Bollywood. She had said, “Esha was interested in extra-curricular activities such as sports and dance. Like in our house, we used to do dance practice because of which she started liking it and wanted to be a professional dancer and even make her career in Bollywood. However, Dharamji didn’t like his daughter dancing or making her Bollywood debut and he had an objection to that.”

In a conversation with the Indian Express, Esha Deol had also revealed that her father, Dharmendra did not want her to enter Bollywood as he is possessive and orthodox. She had said, “I wouldn’t say that they have it tough. Yes, there is a different level of challenge and boys too have their own set. As far as my father is concerned, he is possessive and orthodox, and for him, girls should be kept away from the world in a protected way. That was what he must have felt, also knowing how our industry functions. All said and done, we managed and how!”
On the professional front, Esha Deol’s film, Ek Duaa was released on Voot Select a few weeks ago.
