Farah Khan is undoubtedly one of the most popular names in the Hindi film industry. While she started out as a choreographer in the early ‘90s, she later switched to direction. The 59-year-old is also known for her comic timing and candidness. Unfortunately, life won't be the same for her anymore as she lost her beloved mother.
On July 26, 2024, Kamaal R Khan (KRK) took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to disclose that Farah Khan and Sajid Khan had lost their mother, Menka Irani. This news comes after the filmmaker revealed a few days ago that her mother had undergone multiple surgeries due to health complications. Farah's mother was 79 years old when she breathed last. Sharing a picture of the mother-daughter duo, KRK wrote:

"Choreographer Farah Khan mother passed away. RIP."

On July 12, 2024, Farah Khan took to her Instagram account to share a birthday post for her mother, Menka. In a note, she mentioned that her mother had been the strongest and the bravest person she had ever seen in her life. Farah said that her mother's sense of humour was intact even after undergoing multiple surgeries. Sharing pictures with her mother, Farah penned:
"We all take our mothers for granted..especially me! This last month has been a revelation on how much i lov my mom Menka.. she s been the strongest, bravest person iv ever seen.. sense of humour intact even after multiple surgeries. Happy birthday mom! Today’s a good day to come back home, can’t wait for you to get strong enough to start fighting with me again.. i Lov u."
Farah has always been very open about her family's struggles. The daughter of stuntman-turned-producer, Kamran Khan and Menka Irani, she once discussed that she and her brother, Sajid Khan, were considered the ‘poor cousins’ as their father wasn’t as successful as others while conversing with Radio Nasha. For the unversed, Farah is related to Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar through her mother.

Recalling her childhood, Farah shared that her father lost all his money as his film flopped when she had just turned five. She said that they had a ‘riches to rags’ story and were considered ‘charity cases’ by the rest of the family. After the loss of his entire wealth, Farah’s father resorted to alcohol and passed away when she was just 18. Talking more about her family background, Farah said:
“Yes, I belonged to a filmy family, but by the time I turned five, we were the poor cousins. We’d lost all our money, dad’s film had flopped. We had a riches to rags story. So, they were all rocking, and we were the charity cases. Sajid and me and our mother were the charity cases. But, of course, they were very nice to us. They let us stay in their house.”
