Farah Khan ventured into direction after a decade-long stint as a choreographer in the Hindi film industry. She made her first Bollywood film, Main Hoon Na in 2004, boasting a stellar cast including Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, Naseeruddin Shah, Suniel Shetty, Zayed Khan, and many more. After her successful debut as a director, she collaborated with her good friend and popular actor, SRK once again for her 2007 film, Om Shanti Om, which revolves around the reincarnation of the titular character.
An old interview of the popular filmmaker has surfaced, in which she revealed several unheard anecdotes from the shooting days of Om Shanti Om. While conversing at an event conducted by IFTDA, Farah revealed that she wrote the story for her second film in just two weeks because she had first-hand experience of what goes on in film sets. Further in the conversation, the filmmaker talked about the making of the song, Dewaangi Deewangi, which featured as many as 30 renowned celebs from Bollywood, including Dharmendra, Rekha, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji and many others.

However, a few names, like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, could not be part of the song due to their prior commitments. While ‘Mr Perfectionist’ a.k.a. Aamir had his hands full shooting his 2007 blockbuster film, Taare Zameen Par, Amitabh Bachchan missed it due to Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya’s wedding. Being her witty self, Farah remarked that as the industry wasn’t invited to their wedding, hence the other celebs could shoot for her song. In her words:
“Amitabh Bachchan didn’t come for the Deewangi song shoot because Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan were getting married the same week. Now, the industry was not called (to the wedding), so they all came for the shoot. So that’s good.”

During the same conversation, Farah shared that the legendary actress, Rekha, was the only one who came for rehearsals of the song. The filmmaker also revealed that the 69-year-old actress had done her own makeup and wore her own saree for the song. She further mentioned that Govinda was late to the shoot by 24 hours. Further, Farah also remarked that new-age actors don’t have emotions like the ones from earlier days and now no one would care to star in a song like Deewangi Deewangi.
Furthermore, Farah also discussed that Om Shanti Om could have been the first 100-crore hit. But as it clashed with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, Saawariya, starring then-debutants, Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, her film did a business of around 85-87 crore. However, it received remarkable reviews from both critics and audiences.
