"I'm waiting for a challenging role where I can showcase my versatility. I feel ki chalo, ek aur maa ka role laaye, aur ek dadi ka role laaye mere liye. Same wahi sab kuch. I'm disappointed that makers don't think I can do more than that. I want to do something exciting"

Further continuing with her chain of thoughts, Farida Jalal opined that male actors like Anupam Kher and Amrish Puri were given more opportunities to play a wider range of characters in Hindi cinema than only father or grandfather's roles. However, it was unfortunate that she was just restricted to only one kind of role. The actress was quoted as saying:
"My male counterparts got to do so much. From the late Amrish Puri to Anupam Kher, they played villains as well as comedians so well. They were not limited to playing only fathers or dadas on screen, but unfortunately, I have been given just one slot."
Farida Jalal was most recently seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, as Tajdar Baloch’s grandmother, 'Qudsia Begum'. After the series' success, she sat for an interview with India Today and discussed her bond with the eminent filmmaker, Yash Chopra. She has starred in a number of YRF productions. However, she was left hurt when they stopped casting her in their films.

Farida Jalal said that upon receiving a call from the director, she accepted the offer despite having some differences. Sharing that Karan Johar must have understood his fault, Farida added:
“One fine day, I’m in my car, and I get a call from Karan. He said he wants me to do the dadi’s role, and I said, ‘Of course, I’ll do it, Karan’. He said, ‘I told them in the office to not call you, I’ll call you myself’. Why did he say that? Because he knew, he knew that we’ve wronged her in many ways. I said, ‘You understand, don’t you Karan? This is what I needed. One phone call.’”
