Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the 10th honourable Prime Minister of India. He was also the co-founder of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Apart from being a respected politician, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also an impressive poet and writer. From being conferred with the prestigious Bharat Ratna in 2015, posthumously, to his birthday being celebrated as Good Governance Day, Atal Bihari Vajpayee was indeed a special politician.
The famous politician, Atal Bihari Vajpayee unfortunately passed away on May 22, 2004, due to age-related health issues. Everyone is aware of Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s service to the nation, and even to this very day, he is still remembered as one of the most hard-working politicians ever.

Everyone is aware of the fact that Atal Bihari Vajpayee remained a bachelor for life, but very few know the reason behind it. Once in an interview with a news portal, Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s friend, Gorey Lal Tripathi’s son, Vijay Prakash recalled a story about the late politician’s decision not to get married ever.
It was during the mid-1940s when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was studying at DAV College, Kanpur. One fine day, when the politician came to know that his parents were planning his marriage, he got scared. As soon as he heard about it, Atal Bihari ran out of his house and went straight to his friend, Gorey Lal Tripathi’s house. Vajpayee and Tripathi were close friends and were a part of RSS.

Recalling his father, Gorey Lal Tripathi’s conversation with Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former’s son, Vijay Prakash revealed their conversation. He revealed that the former Prime Minister locked himself in one of the rooms of his father's house for 3 days. In those three days, when Vajpayee needed something, he used to knock, and his friend, Tripathi used to provide him with what he needed.

In the same interview, Vijay Prakash also revealed the answer Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave when his father, Gorey Lal Tripathi asked him why he was running away from marriage. In response to it, Vajpayee said that he wanted to dedicate his life to serving the nation. The incident speaks volumes about Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s love for this nation.
For the unversed, Atal Bihari Vajpayee raised his longtime friend, Rajkumari Kaul and her husband, B.N. Kaul’s daughter, Namita Bhattacharya. The foster daughter of the late Prime Minister of India was the one, who fulfilled all the duties at his funeral.
