Legendary actor-cum-politician, Govinda suffered a severe accident in October 2024 that left his loved ones and fans concerned. The actor had been handling his licensed revolver when he accidentally shot himself in the leg. Govinda was immediately rushed to Mumbai’s Criticare Hospital, where he underwent surgery. It has been a month since the actor was discharged from the hospital, but it seems he is still recovering, as he had to skip Diwali celebrations to rest. His wife, Sunita Ahuja recently shared an update regarding his health.
Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja was seen stepping out of her daughter, Tina Ahuja’s building when a pap asked her about the actor’s health. In a video posted by a social media page, which is now going viral online, Sunita responded:

“Sir ekdam thik hai. Unko rest karne bola hai isliye iss saal Diwali wo nahi mana rahe. Toh sirf main bacchon ke saath Diwali mana rahi hun.”
The gorgeous mother-daughter duo were dressed to the nines for the festivities. Sunita had donned a black sharara with heavy gold embellishments. She accessorised with a stone embellished neckpiece, matching earrings, multiple gold bangles, and beaded bracelets. Her daughter, Tina looked drop-dead gorgeous in a pink and grey ombre saree that she paired with minimal accessories, including a maang tikka and a bracelet.

During a Diwali party earlier, the paparazzi also had the opportunity to ask Govinda and Sunita’s son, Yashvardhan Ahuja for an update on his dad’s health. He assured them that his father was recovering well and quipped that they would see him dancing soon. In his words:
“Badiya, badiya. Much better hai, stitches nikal gaye hai, koi tension nahi hai. Mast, ab ek do hafto mein dance bhi karna chalu kar lenge.”

For the unversed, Govinda starred in a film titled Akhiyon Se Goli Maare alongside Raveena Tandon. However, following his misfiring accident, several people started referencing the film in rather insensitive memes. Actor-cum-author, Twinkle Khanna, who is known for always speaking her mind, called out the people making such jokes. In her Times Of India column, Mrs Funnybones, Twinkle wrote:

This is perhaps why people enjoyed memes with ‘Akhiyon Se Goli Maare’ when one of my favourite comedians, Govinda, accidentally shot himself in the leg.”
According to Twinkle, humour could make difficult situations feel lighter. However, there was a fine line between laughing at someone and laughing with them. Twinkle’s statement about the jokes at Govinda’s expense emphasised how easy it was to forget that such stories involved real people with genuine emotions. It further highlighted that treating tragedies they had suffered as mere jokes could have a serious emotional toll on them.
