Tina Ahuja, daughter of Bollywood superstar, Govinda, made her acting debut in 2015 with Second Hand Husband alongside Gippy Grewal and Dharmendra. Following her brief stint in Bollywood, she could not have much of a successful career in acting, but occasionally dabbled in some music videos. The artist cum entrepreneur recently opened up about her decision to step away from acting and focus on a more fulfilling path alongside her father.
Tina Ahuja recently sat for an interview with Bollywood Bubble, sharing the challenges she faced as a star kid and why she ultimately chose to move on. Speaking about her brief stint in Bollywood, Tina admitted that her journey didn’t unfold as expected. She shared how no casting director wanted to audition her due to certain inhibitions about being Govinda’s daughter. However, she quickly adapted to her circumstances. Tina shared:
“I moved on very quickly because, after a point, it was irritating for me when people said, ‘You have an institute at home, why are you doing this outside?’ So I was like, you know, this is so annoying. After a point, I was like, ‘How many times should I answer the same question again and again?’... I don’t need to run the house by the grace of God… or anything of that sort.”
As the daughter of someone as popular as Govinda, it’s expected that Tina must have gotten the offer to join a reality show at some point. When asked about it, Tina expressed her discomfort with having to let go of her daily rituals and argue with people on a daily basis. Tina shared:
“I have, but I’m not too comfortable… I’m not good at arguments… I feel that your art should speak for you, to you. I feel that something like a good short film, a good music video, a good project, or a web series—something of that sort is better, but you know, like, I can’t argue, I can’t do all that. And I don’t think I can personally survive without my morning routines… I can’t leave my morning routines and my prayers and everything.”
Tina addressed the stereotypes associated with being a ‘star kid’, revealing that many assumed she wouldn’t be open to auditions or look tests. Tina remarked:
“People thought, ‘She’s Govinda’s daughter, so she might not be open to look tests.’ But I was. I can’t help it if people want to cook up stories about me in their own heads.”
Further in the interview, Tina shared that she now works closely with her father and assists him with his projects. This shift has made a positive change in her life, as it brought her closer to her father and also allowed her to embrace a more relaxed lifestyle. After choosing ‘Plan B’, Tina has now learned to embrace the perks of being from a privileged family and stay away from the societal pressures of following her dad’s career path and making a mark in cinema.
