Back in April 2021, the critically acclaimed filmmaker created a stir on the internet when he announced his debut web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The web series will have eight episodes and will be released on Netflix on May 1, 2024.

In an interview with Netflix's CEO, Ted Sarandos, Sanjay Leela Bhansali opened up about his debut web show, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The director clearly stated that Heeramandi is his life's 'biggest project'. Not only this, Sanjay Leela Bhansali also added that his web series would be a tribute to iconic Indian films, Mother India (1957), Mughal-e-Azam (1960), and Pakeezah (1972).
Talking about the star cast of Heeramandi, the web series features a series of exceptionally talented actors like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, Farida Jalal, Shekhar Suman, Fardeen Khan, and many more. However, if we talk about the highest-paid actress in the web series, it is Sonakshi Sinha. The actress charged a sum of Rs. 2 crores for playing the role of 'Fareedan'.

If we compare Sonakshi Sinha's fee to other actors in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's web series, she is making 100 per cent or more earnings than the rest. While Sharmin Sehgal, who portrayed the role of 'Alamzeb' was paid an estimated sum of Rs. 35 lakhs, Sanjeeda Sheikh charged Rs. 40 lakhs for playing 'Waheeda' in the web series. Fardeen Khan was also paid a sum of Rs. 75 lakhs for playing the character of 'Wali Mohammed'.
Richa Chadha and Manisha Koirala are tied as the second highest-paid actresses in the film, as they received a sum of Rs. 1 crore for playing the roles of 'Lajjo' and 'Mallikajaan', respectively in the film.

The grand premiere of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was held on April 24, 2024, in Mumbai. Several Bollywood celebrities attended the event and shared their reactions through their respective social media handles. Most of the B-town celebrities congratulated the director for creating a masterpiece and once again proving the mettle of his direction.

Out of all the reviews, it was Genelia D'Souza's take on Heeramandi that has excited people. The actress posted a cutesy picture with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and penned a note atop it. In the note, Genelia praised the director for his work and admitted that she was 'mesmerised' by his work. Her note can be read as:
"Just saw 2 episodes of Heeramandi, and it has me craving for more. What a world, what a journey you take us through, Sanjay Sir. Mesmerised as always. Loved, loved, loved the entire cast and what a super effort by the crew too. Netflix, this is truly special."
With so much buzz around Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, it will be interesting to see whether the director and his story will be able to make a memorable debut on OTT or not. The story of Heeramandi is penned by Moin Baig, and it will be interesting to see whether the audience will give it a thumbs-up or not.
