Television’s beloved star, Hina Khan, is back and stronger than ever. Known for her role as ‘Akshara’ in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Hina has proven once again why she’s a force to be reckoned with, both on-screen and off. After being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in mid-2024, the actress took a brief hiatus from the spotlight. Now, with unwavering resilience, she is ready to grace the screens once more in the highly anticipated series, Griha Laxmi.
In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Hina reflected on the coincidental timing of her comeback to the screen. The actress shared how the series was originally set to be released in October 2024 but it had to be postponed due to her health condition. Talking about the way things fell into place, Hina shared:
“Griha Laxmi was supposed to release a while back in October last year but they couldn’t because of my health. Kehta hai na ki upar waala sab kuch plan karke rakhte hain. At this point, people are calling me strong because of the way I’m dealing with my diagnosis and treatment. And in the show, I’m playing a strong woman. Everything came together and got inter-connected."
Hina shared that even though the release date had to be postponed due to her health, it was not the case with the show’s promotions. For context, Griha Laxmi’s central narrative revolves around themes of existence, survival, and transformation, and sees Hina in the role of a simple housewife transforming into a dominant figure in the drug market. Talking about similarities with her real-life persona, Hina explained:
“None of this was planned. We weren’t waiting to start the promotions of Griha Laxmi and release it after my diagnosis. But now that this is happening, people are relating my character to my real-life personality even more.”
Hina Khan first opened up about her diagnosis in June 2024, sharing an emotional yet empowering message on Instagram. She shared that she was battling stage three breast cancer, and also assured fans that she was undergoing treatment and doing well. Her message read:
“Despite this challenging diagnosis, I want to reassure everyone that I am doing well. I am strong, determined, and fully committed to overcoming this disease. My treatment has already begun, and I am ready to do everything necessary to emerge from this even stronger… with the grace of the Almighty, we believe I will overcome this challenge and be completely healthy.”
Speaking about her new show, Hina shared how roles like this are hard to come by, as they require the actor to possess a similar strength in real life as well. She also shared that the makers might have chosen her for the role because of her resilience as a person. As if destiny had it planned all along, Hina feels her own journey gave her the depth to portray the character in Griha Laxmi. Set to premiere on January 16, 2025 on Epic On, Griha Laxmi will mark a bold new chapter in Hina’s career.
