As Hrithik Roshan's 2004 starrer, Lakshya completed 20 years, it will be re-released in the theatres on June 21, 2024. Directed by Farhan Akhtar, the film also features Preity Zinta, Amitabh Bachchan, and Amrish Puri. Hrithik portrayed the role of 'Karan Shergill', an ambitionless youngster, who joined the Indian Army after getting dumped by his ladylove, 'Romi Dutta'. The film revolves around the theme of self-discovery and the importance of ambitions in life.
Recently, Hrithik Roshan took to his IG handle and shared a video of himself to express his gratitude for the film, Lakshya. The actor mentioned that he had no idea why Farhan Akhtar chose him to play the lead in the film, adding that a director's mind could clearly understand a person's countenance. Hrithik shared that he himself went through some turmoil in his personal life, which made him the perfect choice for the film. He added:
"He (Farhan Akhtar) had written this beautiful script. More than the story and the big cause, the character of Karan Shergill was me. I don't know why he cast me as Karan Shergill. Perhaps the director's mind could see through and understand the person's countenance and know that this human has been through certain things that are going to make him the perfect cast for this film. At that point in time, I was the perfect human, not actor, to be cast in this film. I had been through those experiences in very similar ways."

Soon, a Reddit user shared the video on the discussion platform and mentioned that Farhan is Hrithik's childhood friend, who knows about the ups and downs in the actor's life. Thus, the filmmaker was sure that Hrithik would be the perfect choice for the film. Moreover, the social media user shared that Lakshya was shot immediately after Hrithik's break-up with Kareena, and the former sported the look of 'Karan Shergill' while they were promoting the film, Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon. Back then, Kareena and Hrithik weren't on talking terms, and they looked on the brink of tears. Since Hrithik clearly mentioned having the same experiences as the main character in the film, he was talking about being emotionally drained after his breakup with Kareena.
Later, many netizens flooded the post's comment section, pointing out that Hrithik Roshan was indeed talking about his breakup with Kareena Kapoor. Reacting to the post, a user asked, "Was this before his marriage to Suzzanne? So why would he state his affair so openly while he is still married to his then wife!" Another one commented, "He and Kareena had an affair while he was newly married, wouldn’t call that dating exactly."
