Every year, with red carpet events like the Met Gala, Cannes and others, we get to see an array of fashionistas showing off their best style statements. This year too, actresses and many other celebrities from different industries have already radiated bright at their red carpet look at the event. However, it was the look of a Hyderabadi businesswoman who blew minds with her pricey ensemble for the day. Even during her debut Met Gala appearance in 2021, she caught quite some attention by wearing a gown inspired by the American flag.
For her second appearance at the Met Gala on May 6, 2024, businesswoman, Sudha Reddy walked the red carpet in a custom-made Tarun Tahiliani ensemble. The bespoke Tarun Tahliani outfit captured the ephemeral essence of time and beauty, as per the designer. It showed the emasculation of colonialism to a renaissance of tradition infused with modernity and craft with technology. Her stunning ensemble has intricate floral patterns all over it, and it featured a corset-style top attached to a body-hugging skirt and a long sheer cape at the back. It took 80 artisans and 4500 hours to make her ensemble.

Sudha completed her look with glam makeup, including smokey eyes, a middle-parted bun hairdo and red lipstick. Moreover, she was seen flaunting a heirloom necklace that comprised 30 solitaire diamonds totalling 180 carats. Not only that, she accessorised her look with a vintage Chanel bag that, according to a report in DNA, comes with a price tag of over USD 40,000. Upon converting to Indian currency it stands at Rs. 33 lakh. In addition, the same report claimed that Sudha’s entire ensemble, including her accessories, amounted to approximately USD 10 million, which is Rs 83 crore in INR.
Sudha Reddy is the wife of Megha Krishna Reddy, the managing director of the privately held Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited. Sudha is also a director in the same company but she has dedicated her life towards philanthropic works. Through her Sudha Reddy Foundation, she has also collaborated with UNICEF, Global Gift Foundation, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Fight Hunger Foundation and Action Against Hunger. Moreover, she joined hands with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s mission to support art beyond just the gala. Thus, she made a debut on the red carpet in 2021. Talking about the same collaboration in an interview on the red carpet in 2021, she had said:
“The Met Gala has been one of the most aspirational landmark events in the world of style, one that is keenly admired by fashion greats. Monday evening's intimate gathering was special and memorable. It was an extremely rewarding outing for me as I was able to exchange notes with many notable personalities, some of who are extremely keen to explore socio-economic welfare campaigns in association with the Sudha Reddy Foundation in the future. I am extremely humbled and honoured to have received this opportunity to represent my country at this eclectic fashion parade.”

For her debut at the Met Gala 2021, Sudha opted for a Falguni Shane Peacock gown that was inspired by the American flag, to reflect that year's theme - ‘American Independence'. The ensemble featured a bright gold sculptured gown with 3D embellishments of Swarovski crystals, sequins and bugle beads along with a dramatic 4-meter metallic train that sported colours of the American flag. Styled by Ise White, Sudha completed her look with a pair of sequined gold stilettos from Chanel, a Judith Leiber Ganesha clutch and Farah Khan Ali's ornate diamond earcuffss. Altogether, she looked priceless.
